I'm sorry but Stephen Fry, nice chap that he is, has no credibility when it comes to talking about tech.
He's dropped a number of glaring gaffes over the years which serve to demonstrate that he has absolutely no idea of what he's talking about when it comes to technology.
I know people with over 20 years experience of Apple computers and they still struggle to print something. Ability and knowledge are not necessarily proportional to experience.
And, no doubt he gets little gifts from Apple for all his supportive work.
I was once enthusiastic about Apple too, but I am finding my enthusiasm wanes yearly. What was once a great tool for work (and because the OS was light years ahead of the competition) I now find clunky and frustrating, the loss of Jobs has been great to the Apple vision, sadly not many people are seeing it for what it is (and that's the likes of Mr Fry, et al.).
Mavericks is a pile of poo compared to the older OSX's. There are loads of bugs in the System.
He does have a point though, being first to market means nothing if the product is badly implemented. I really want to like android but its just too buggy and fragmented, I can count on 1 hand how many times my iphones have crashed, I've lost count of how many times my android devices have crashed.
Is it possible to put it back without a jailbreak? I've been out of the iPhone sphere for a while but I seem to remember downgrading your OS being impossible.
Without a jailbreak officially no, unofficially yes you can, but you'll only have a short window of time to do it before Apple rescinds the keys for iOS 7. It's also not obvious how you do this.
After the keys have been recinded then jail breaking will be the only way, if indeed it's actually possible at all after this.
Most reviews I've read attest that battery life has improved quite markedly over the previous models. The 6+ has better battery life, for obvious reasons, but the 6 will also have enough juice to keep you going all day. Overall, I'm somewhat glad I bought the 6 in the end - wanted to have the Plus initially, but after having read the reviews, I'd say the 6 is the one to have, unless you can live with putting an iPad Mini to your head when placing calls.
First of all: Apple has never confirmed a launch date for Switzerland. They've only confirmed a pre-order date. Last year, they started accepting pre-orders quite early on (albeit with very long delivery times) but the phone didn't reach Swiss retailers until mid November.
And second: once they do officially reach Swiss Apple Stores, there will be a massive queue, like always.
Order date according to apple.ch is 26th Sept. According to the web pages of the GVA/BSL/ZRH stores they will have the phone at 8am on the 26th Sept. So order date and release date are the same!
Yes. But I was referring to Apple. Where as in the US and the UK Apple website allows you to order earlier than the release date. I guess Orange and Swisscom are trying to get ahead of the game!
Possible EF Post on 26 September at 10 in the morning:
As an enthusiastic Apple fan, I was sleeping at the front door of the Apple store since 20 September. I was the first one in the line and would be the first person in Zürich to have the new iPhone. The 35 other people in the queue were all nice and we listened all day long to the new U2 album on iTunes.
I was very excited on the night before but slept very well. Actually, I had such a deep sleep that I woke up at 9 am, only to find out that everyone has passed the queue and all iPhones were sold out
Why do people always bypass in queues in Switzerland? This would never have happened in the US Actually, I would have had my iPhone 2 weeks earlier in the US
