It is delusional for them to claim whatever Switzerland does will cause some change at a planetary level.
The minimum requirement for 100,000 signatures for a popular vote was set in 1975 so it needs to be increased by at least a third

I’d like something more nuanced. Like 100k from German speaking Cantons, plus 30k from French and multilingual Cantons.
Not necessarily. It may be that if 100,000 Swiss people feel strongly enough about an issue for a vote then that vote should go ahead, irrespective of the actual population size.
Sometimes when I watch documentaries about Southern Germany, or Austria, I feel I could be watching a documentary about the German part of Switzerland, and vis-versa.
Maybe the Italian and French cantons should get a larger weighting in a vote rather than, as you suggest, a smaller one so Switzerland retains some of it’s overall culture rather than just being another Germanic country with it’s love of Bratwurst and BMWs.
You need a large enough sample to ensure the nutters do not have a disproportionate effect.
100,000 in the current population is less than 1%
In a normal distribution around 0.3% are extreme values
And that it would seriously bother any company having to take Switzerland off the client list for certain products.
But I strongly disagree that the minimum requirement should be rised. People have to be taught what an initiative is.
Ahhhh, and who decides which are the nutters??
My point about this initiative in February is that they just put an idea out there and did not bother to think it through and come up with suggestions on how to realize it.
After concluding that voting yes would be like voting for Apfel Strudel both of us have voted no. Still a couple of weeks to go.
Yes, but what if other people liked Apfelstrudel?
You don’t need to like something to appreciate that others less fortunate may like it.
The problem with Direct democracy as it sometimes smacks of “Me ! me! me!”
Not just with direct democracy, though, and also not special to Switzerland. Apparently it’s a thing - during bad times people vote for what they perceive is best for themselves and their immediate family, but during good times people vote for what’s best for their wider community, region or nation.
There’s a whole text on it but google fu is evading me today.
Actually I am not voting “oui” because I have no hint of a suggestion of an idea what it actually means. I am not giving our pathetic government a carte blanche…
democray works! (*)
(*) just because I agree with the outcome
I just looked at the vote map and basically all Switzerland vote NO.
But…what’s in the water of Lausanne and Bern? Both voted yes with 58%
