Hi all, writing from my cell phone and dreading the idea of having to go to the office on Wednesday if I don't sort out my internet until then. Bought this lovely house, and the phone jacks are nothing I've seen in my life before.
The phone socket in what is to be my office has 4 brown cables feeding a four prong phone jack!?
Living room has something that looks a bit more modern, a red and white cable feeding a plug that is likely to be something I'd be able to connect my internet to, but nothing really that looks like something you would plug in a dsl connection to.
There is a Leroy merlin across the border in France I will likely go to tomorrow. However, the 4 brown cable thing, is that likely completely obsolete today? I would assume so and I was going to only toy with the red and white cable thing tomorrow.
Sorry for the long winded post, lifted furnitures and boxes for 8 hours today and the champers to celebrate is making me sound mad. On the bright side my internet provider did tell me they have switched my internet to the new house, just need to figure out this thing..
Old obsolete plugs. Get an electrician in to replace them. If you are renting get the landlord to do this.
Thank you for the link!!!! Apologies for not having used the search function.
Went and bought an RJ45 cable connector in a house next door, that has essentially an online business and never sees customers at their door usually there is an "in" and "out" cable in that old phone socket. I didn't know which one was which, ended up connecting the "out" cable and then simply switched around to connect the "in" cable and internet is working fine now.
So easy to do, a 3 year old could do it. It's only 12v I think on phone jacks so no health risk of doing it yourself. Can safely keep working from home tomorrow!
