5 Swiss CANTONAL referrals for ordinary naturalisation?

Good day EF, I will be qualitified for ordinary naturalisation in about a year’s time. A friend told me that to get the application approved for the part of successful social integration, we have to be recommended by 5 Swiss people LIVING IN THE SAME CANTON?(we are in Geneva)

Is this mandatory that the Swiss referees have to live in the same canton?! I think I have 5 Swiss friends but nationwide. I don’t have 5 in Geneva. Is there similar rules in other canton?

I searched the official website and the only part which could seem to be the source of this requirement is " Avoir avec le canton des attaches qui témoignent de votre adaptation au mode de vie genevois " (from the below ge.ch link)which seems a vague requirement without mentioning the number 5. Or did I miss any article?

In Neuchâtel we had to provide the names of three people and it didn’t specify that they had to be from the canton.

None of them were ever contacted by the way.

4 for us, Swiss living in Switzerland (apart from bosses at work or kids' teachers, who can be foreigners). This differs from canton to canton, you need to check your cantonal requirements.

I sent my application (In Geneva) in February, and I had swiss people from different Cantons ( only one of them was in Geneva, and it was my boss)

It was accepted, so it is not a problem.

They wont even contact them.

The same from my side as well, had people from different cantons on the referral list and there was no issue on this regard.

Aargau requires 02 references. Need to be Swiss. Not from Aargau.

Last I checked, they were never contacted.

Ditto, we had 10 referals, less than half were from Vaud.

Ya, so we were over achievers but it worked

So why not list Ignazio Cassis,as one of yours.

We were told we were going to need a minimum of two for Vaud, who needed to be Vaudois. We did this for our children under "the old process" and set up to do the same for ourselves with "the new process".

Having agreed with the two we thought would look the most impressive (family lived x hundred years in the area etc) that they would speak for us we felt very smug. However no one/no form we had to fill in ever asked us for their names, so no one was contacted!

It’s not and was never a requirement in Vaud I don’t know where you’re getting this from (ordinary naturalization)

It was in 2017 for us, perhaps its a communal thing.

Edited to add: Thinking about it, it may have been for a background paper for the retired policeman who interviewed us. But at one stage we came up with 10, a couple of which are from our commune, a couple of others from other Vaud communes, three from Geneva and three others from elsewhere in Switzerland.
