60k Luxembourg vs 90k CHF Geneva

I make 90 k in Lausanne but live in Geneva. Not banking/finance/IT. I would say between 90-120 k is quite a normal Swiss salary for one that has a higher degree at a junior level (Bachelors > PhD; there isn't really that much difference in what they make)

I would say I do everything you speak off with the following changes:

-have a shared flat (5.5 piece with two others) for 1k (but one could say I could save half of that since I mainly stay with my partner's flat) both are in the centre

-I got on the same amount of trips within Europe/Internationally but mostly stay in Switzerland since I have a GA.

-I eat out/drink out more.

-but I have no car.

So if you factor in getting a car, paying for a spot to park the car, paying for parking when using your car, and paying for your own 3 piece apartment.... You're better off in Luxembourg unless you want to change your lifestyle a bit.

Thanks for the feedback.

This is exactly what I needed to hear!

I honestly dont want to talk you out of your offer - going to Switzerland for some time is for sure an experience. But if you do the move for the money and expected increase in life quality are you going to regret it. If you like the idea of lac Leman in summer and skiing in winter... different story. I have personally witnessed some companies trying to pull a fast one and attracting foreign talent but low balling them on their pay... I would personally not play along with it.

Here’s a new article with some “hard” numbers. Even confirmed by the cellular operator themselves.

Old wage: 3000 brut a month + commissions ~ 4600 brut average a month.

New wage: 4000 brut a month + commissions ~ ??? (New scale hasn’t started yet)

So a sales person at salt is getting 60k (13 monthly) you’re going to get 90k. It’s up to you to decide.

As I say 90K is not great. Tax in Geneva is high by CH standards and health insurance is also more expensive than in other parts of CH.
