I am in a strange situation where most , not all but most, of the A post letters addressed to me are simply being returned. B letters, I would say are all fine.
I have spoken a while ago with the postman regarding this problem. He basically answered that he was not returning letters; he could read well foreign surnames, and matching them with what was written in the mail boxes. Needless to say, my surname is well written in the mailbox.
The top of it was the letter to make an appointment for the MFK, that had to be delivered in person by the police to make sure I was living... where I live. They were also surprised that the letter had been returned. I hope they don't send me any orange invoice for this...
I am starting to suspect that there's an automatic thing rejecting mails to my address on my name, before they are handed over to the postman. Could this be? How does A post work, what's the different in terms of handling with the B post? Does anyone know?
We have in the mailbox 'Familie X - Y', where 'X' is my family name and 'Y' is wife's one. We assume, maybe wrongly, that any letter with a 'X' or 'Y' in the recipient, should be fine.

It all depends on how old and educated the post person is. You’re using the Allianznamen/Nom d’alliance convention of Switzerland. Last time the laws around changed in Switzerland was 2013, or yesterday in Swiss standards.
However, “Familie X-Y” can also be interpreted as a compound surname. Letters are addressed to Your First Name + X Surname or Wife First Name + Y Surname, and the post person can interpret it as “no one with compound surname lives here”.
If you have a conservative/old post person, they expect one (1) surname because “it always has been like this”. Wife keeping her family name is for witches …just a dumb joke, OK?
Just use your imagination. Someone steals your identity, gets some loans and you never get informed about it.
