About Work B Permit

Dear All,

I'm Veera, originally from India and living in Fribourg, Switzerland. It's been 5 and half years for me in Switzerland. My wife (Indian) is in the software field (IT job) and works in Zurich. I completed my PhD here recently. I got a job offer from a company which is in Lausanne. This company also said that they will apply work "B" permit for me. I'm very well aware of Swiss rules and regulations for the work permit to non-EU nationals.

I have a few questions regarding this:

1) After submitting all the required documents to Vaud canton for the work permit, What is the chance the canton can say "No" to the work permit?

2) I also heard from friends, that initially, the canton can give an "L" permit for two years. Is it true? And in case they give an "L" permit to me, can my wife continue her work in Zurich?

3) If the canton doesn't give me a work "B" permit, can my wife ask her company to apply for a work B permit for her? Will that work?

Is your wife here on family reunification? The switching to her as the main permit holder will then most likely not work.

1) If you fulfill the conditions: Nearly Zero.

2) If you get an open ended contract you should get a permit B. I do not see why a former Swiss PhD-Student should get an L.

Hi guys,

if things go even more south in the eastern Europe, can I bring my family (mother, father, siblings) in Switzerland ? I have a B-permit valid for 5 years and I'm an EU national.

your spouse or registered partner;
your children and grandchildren under the age of 21 or dependent;
your dependent parents and grandparents (unless you are in education or training)."

Assuming you have the financial ability to support them.

And assuming OP is already are the primary financial support, otherwise they're not dependents are they?

But if the family members are also EU, surely they could exercise freedom of movement on their own, as long as they have the finances or get a job here.

Did you get your permit in the meantime? May I ask how long did it take in total after the company submitted your permit request? I am in a similar situation (PhD holder from ETHZ). Many thanks
