Question for the EF panel of fitness club experts.
15 (nearly 16) year old NickatbaselJnr would like to have a membership of the Activ-Fitness gym in Zurich Alstetten:
https://www.activfitness.ch/studios/…ltstetten-bhf/
I have already booked him on to a trial training for next week, and I will go along just to see how and what. Based on that we would see whether to go ahead with a longer membership.
I have checked the Terms and Conditions on their website so fully aware of costs and terms - so am going in with eyes wide open on that score. Sadly they don’t do a one-month or 10-visits abo initially for that category of gym so we’ll likely go for an annual abo if the trial works out
To prove I already did some homework, I already found this on SRF’s “Kassensturz” website:
https://www.srf.ch/sendungen/kassens…raining-bieten
And this is the most relevant thing I could find on EF (2019).
https://www.englishforum.ch/daily-li…ness-club.html
I would be interested to get some honest opinions about this specific branch from existing or recent members. In particular are the staff there proactive about helping users get the best out of the equipment and getting users to adopt good training habits? Are the people (staff and regular users) friendly?
Cheers,
Nick
Not sure if they still have but they used to have a 1 month trial but for a specific month of the year. Maybe you could ask them if there's anything upcoming? They also used to give out free entrance cards (3 entries per person). I did use that before deciding to join. But I haven't been there since the beginning of the pandemie.
SO my opinions are somewhat old...
+ close to my house
+ they have childcare for certain hour though I never used it
mixed: some of the employees are helpful with showing moves (which is the reason they are on the list of insurances') but most don't care
- can get quite crowded on the weekends so I had to either go mid-day during work days or just before closing on weekends
- it can get quite hot if there are lots of people. When there are less I could open a couple of windows but if there are more someone will almost for sure close them
They are OK equipment-wise but not the top (somewhat similar to ETH, maybe a bit lower). They also lack some of the smaller items for balance exercises, etc.
p.s. this is for the lindenplatz branch. never used the altstetten bhanhof one.
Thanks for the reply, minimimi.
Yep, this is another factor we'll need to consider. Pretty much a fact of life for gyms - though if NickatbaselJnr gets off school early enough he might beat the early-evening crowd.
Cheers,
Nick
