well, Männedorf Spital was good, noth to say, operation was fine more or less, they have taken out adenoids and half of one tounsil.
now its 2 day my son is shy to talk as all his nose is closed, i mean he cannot even pronounce some sounds or letters, does anyone have an experience? is it normal?
Honestly, no idea. Glad the op went well. We didn't have any such problems with our son (both adenoids and tonsils out completely). We saw (heard) immediate improvements in sleep (even as he was recovering after the op in the hospital). No probs with voice - although he sounded like a little boy (sweet to us).
Yes, you are right he sounds much more young really sweet, but nose is completly closed, i mean really not like having a cold or so, as if there is no space at all, im so worried, if anybody had this operation also please give your input,
If you are worried/concerned just call them . Don't feel bad about "wasting their time". They'll happily talk to you over the phone and if they feel the need call you in.
EDIT:
1) that's what they are there for
2) you'd never forgive yourself if something was wrong
Yeah, really, they are used to it. We just had a moment of hell with ear infection and when I found out our kid could not hear (talked and walked funny too), we called the ER just to verify, a few questions on what is normal and what is not, how long before the meds kick in, what the normal course of recovery is, painkillers, etc...They were very helpful, it was at 4am, they knew parents worry. You will not inconvenient them. Every spital has a pediatric ER.
I read this thread because I am concerned about my daughter. She is almost 4 and has huge tonsils (the biggest her doctor has ever seen. They even affect her voice). She also snores, has bouts of sleep apnea when she is ill, and is ill quite often. Even a minor cold leaves her with 3-4 weeks of disrupted sleep, long after the runny nose or coughing is gone. She did have frequent ear infections as a baby, but she outgrew them. However, her tonsils are large enough that they affect her voice and her eating habits (she won't each anything crunchy or chewy) as well as her sleep. Her doctor previously had her on a steroid treatment to try and shrink the tonsils but it didn't help.
So, we are going to the doctor to discuss whether she is a good candidate for tonsil/adenoid removal.
My questions are for parents who have gone through this:
1. Is there anything you wished you'd asked the doctor, or anything that you feel is important to ask?
2. Did anyone regret having this operation done (I mean, after the long recovery time)?
3. Was anyone advised to wait due to age or weight (my little girl is very thin, though we're happy to put her on the double cream diet )
Thanks for any additional advice or personal experiences you all have!
