Administration of car as personal effects coming from the EU

Hello,

Got some questions about administrative duties, hope you can help.

I came to Switzerland last week with my old car from Hungary.

At the border they filled out the 13.20A form, and the customs officer

explained that within one year I either have to get the license plate changed (fully import the car) or take the car out of the country, bring back this form and leave it in Hungary again.

Now, my question is: until that one year deadline approaches and a decision will have to be made (take it back or import fully), what administrative tasks I have? My insurer in Hungary gave me a green card, they told me its valid all across the EU and switzerland, so I guess I'm insured.

I most likely won't keep it, once I find an apartment here and furnish it, I don't think I'll have a huge need for a car. So I'll probably take it out of switzerland.

Do I need to register it still?

You've already written the conditions so I don't understand the question now. You can't/shouldn't use it on Swiss roads once the 12 months is up. No one will chase you if the car is out of the country when this time is up.

Hello there,

I am in the exact same position.

Don't forget your car still needs a valid MOT ("muszaki vizsga"), with that you should be covered for the next 12 months driving with the original license plates.

I also won't keep my car and have asked customs for advice about what I will need to do when I want to sell it. Here is their reply:
