Advantages of Swiss citizenship versus C permit

Ha, they can still get awkward here if they don’t like cut of your jib. Heard stories from Russkies who were asked at interview to name 5 Swiss generals or give the history of a 1ft high bronze statue of an Ibis nicknamed “Shorty” by the lake (plot spoiler: it was stolen and a replacement installed).

Apparently there is a lady somewhere in eastern Europe who makes a living coaching such folk by zoom, and is an expert on life in Zug without ever having been here.

We had exactly this issue. Ultimately I took Swiss citizenship and decided the children could decide for themselves when old enough to make a decision. Military service was a factor in our decision. Your son is only 12 now and will only be 14 in 2025. I would say there’s no need for him to rush this decision.

No of course they couldn’t..they certainly wouldn’t have the capacity to do that ,I mean they only broadcast in more than 40 languages , so German, French or Italian would be far too difficult for them.

Yes exactly - this was what I mentioned earlier - plus add to that unexpected death which - well - happens. You would not lose your permit immediately but if you did not have the means to support yourself (eg the main earner died) after a certain time, the continued renewal of a C Permit would be (and has been in the past) questioned/refused.

And there was a thread recently on EF where the rules for naturalisation were quoted, and one of the exclusions was traffic violations over X salary days penalty.

In principle, the rules for naturalisation are much the same as those for retaining your C permit, so you can get kicked out for (extreme) traffic offenses.
