advice needed on planting herbs on balcony

Thanks Bill !

Yes I may try seedlings...

I would use seedlings for everything except pasley and basil, the best results have been when I have "overseeded" ie too many seeds for the pot or a few seeds per cm2. It ends up like a herb lawn but insulates the potsoil from getting too hot and drying out. I have pasley self seeding in the same pot for 3 years. Big pots are better and a plastic pot inside a terracotta one (double pot) is probably best of all for insulating the soil from large temp fluctuations which plants don't like. Plant way more than you need, cut it hard and give away the excess to your Swiss neighbours, you will never have a problem with parking, washing or excess noise ever again!! they love a bit of home grown.........

Just to add, my local Landi is having a special this week, 6 herb plants for 9.90 chf. This seems like a good place to start, assuming your local Landi has the same on offer.

Thanks a lot!
