Advice on claiming chomage after taking care of kids?

Hello! Thanks to all members for providing some advice regarding chomage in Switzerland. I am a full time working mum and my employment contract is coming to an end.

I am considering taking a break to focus on the family, and then would seek employment again after a year or two. I know that it is definitely possible to take a break as there are special provisions for looking after family, however I am not sure what it means for the amount that you would get?

1. Is the calculation based on your last salary when you were employed, or (as I've read on other threads) your average income, which would also take into consideration the Zero income during the time spent looking after the kids?

2. Is it possible to initially look for work (and claim chomage), then if that doesn't work out to take a career break to look after the kids, and then after a year or so re-enter the employment market?

i think I need to go in to their offices but if anyone has any hands on experience with this any advice ahead of that would be great! thanks!

AFAIK if you do not have daycare/nanny for the kids, you won ́t be eligible for RAV as you are not available to work. I think one of the questions is if you have daytime care for the kids.

This is indeed the case.

thanks for the comments. I actually am referring to taking a break also from receiving benefits to look after children properly. there are special provisions for this but I don't understand them very well.

Are you sure there are special provision for that? Can you post a link for this?

I dont think there are. It wouldnt make sense. There is Mutterschaftsurlaub (maternety leave). But that is 14 weeks after the birth. For that period you get money.
