Already in the apartment, insurance options

Noob question about "renter's insurance".

I recently heard about Mieterverband , and I will join them. My understanding is this only provides legal representation in case we run in any issues.

How about any kind of insurance that would help us with damage that happens while we are in the apartment (e.g. my kid breaking our window )?

Would that be called liability insurance ? I am only interested in stuff about apartment, I don't need general coverage (e.g. me breaking a neighbor's window).

Thank you.

Swiss Authorities Online (ch.ch) notes:

“Personal liability insurance and household contents insurance are often confused because they generally come as a package.
Unlike personal liability insurance, household contents insurance does not cover you for injury, damage or loss you cause to a third party. It covers damage to the items you have in your home, specifically personal belongings such as your furniture, TV, clothes and sports equipment.
You can take out personal liability and household contents insurance separately from two different insurers.”

A “normal” third party liability insurance you would get in Switzerland covers both of these cases, since they similar: you break the window of someone else (in the first case of your landlord, in the second case of your neighbour).

However, MV itself offers an insurance to its members that covers the liability only within the rented property, so it seems to be exactly what you are looking for, check it out: https://www.mieterverband.ch/mv/mitg…sicherung.html

In general many people agree on the fact that having a broad liability insurance is a good idea when living in Switzerland, so you might want to consider doing it anyway
