also new, but not english

hello all

hope you dont mind me wanting to join you. I have lived many years in England, have maried there had kids and have trained as a nurse. After divorse I came back "home" which did not seem home anymore. Nevertheless, that was 27 yrs.ago and I am happy here.

How did I find you!

I was looking to buy PG tips tea bags and here I am.

Now I am an old lady with married children, married again and soon 4 grandchildren. What does woman want more, except pgtips teabags:-)

You don't need to be English to be a part of EF, all you need to do is speak it and have a connection to Switzerland

Welcome to the forum!

Never say never and never say old

My father in law is one of the youngest men I have the pleasure of knowing. At 72, he thought himself too old to keep his boat (repairs & maintenance were increasing) and his wife no longer enjoyed sailing. That was 3 years ago!

So they bought themselves some mountain bikes instead (!)

Others in the forum only look young due to their aviator

Welcome to the forum! There will be a few who would enjoy a spot of tea with you

Just in case your Googling let you down:

But do scroll down a little - Tetley teabags are on special offer! Britshop are an excellent company; I've used them myself several times and everything arrives perfectly packaged.

A warm welcome to the Forum.

Hi Yoli, and welcome!

With your long experience of Switzerland I'm sure you'll be a great help to many of us, with tips to things that are obvious to you and perhaps not so obvious to foreigners ...

Hope you find the teabags, too!

Welcome to the forum!

You can buy PG Tips tea bags at any Indian store, such as the one on Langstrasse in Zurich, or the one near the station in Rapperswil.

They're not cheap, but they are worth it!

Welcome to the EF, Yoli, and welcome back to CH!

You don't even have to speak English to join EF. Like me, I only type it.

(I usually buy Tetley tea when it's 20 percent off in Migros. Cheap, I know. But their English Breakfast tea is decent.)

Pah! Spot the colonial!

Welcome Yoli. You could get Fortnum & Mason to courier your tea bags over. Like what we do, don't you know ya!

what a warm welcome, thank you all! I do hope I might be able to give a tip or two to someone. I must admit, I never got into Swiss politics too much since I am back. It did not interest me.

@ Rangatiranui, how nice about your parents. I admit we have bikes but prefer the ones with motor. We have started travelling with a camper and enjoy it very much.

@Kodokan, super tip re. Britshop. I have never baked a ginger cake again since I could not buy treacle. Have been too lazy to look around as well whilst I was working.

I noticed a few mistakes in my first writing.

Can one correct?

I will of course go to the Lnagstasse and buy some tea there.thanks and cheers

After 10 (I believe) posts you will get an Edit button on all of your posts.

And one more to the EF!

You should be able to, but perhaps only after the first 10 posts - I know that's the rule for being able to do 'Thanks' on the bottom of people's posts. After your first 10, blue buttons magically appear on the bottom right hand corner of your posts; that's where the 'Edit' button lives, so maybe it will appear soon. You're hanging around, right..?

Treacle - I take it you mean the black stuff, that in the UK comes in a red tin with black writing? My neighbour tells me it's called 'réglisse' (at least, in French) and that you can buy it in health food shops/ bio markets. I haven't needed to test this yet, as I bought a vast supply of it back with me from our April UK family visiting trip.

Re: treacle - you can find it in Globus. But you'd have to sell a kidney for it.

Or just use Melasse from Migros. It works fine.

Nah, not the same thing at all, I reckon. Sure, melasse is a passable substitute for Golden Syrup, but not for Black Treacle - for that, you'd probably have to melt a bag of liquorice all-sorts!

Happily, again Britshop comes up trumps and has both products, in their beautiful retro metal tins:

I only have a few pg bags as the box is nearly finished. You can have them. My friend is coming from the UK the weekend of August 15. I can get him to bring you a box??

Try ZitronenVerbena in the meantime! Very summery!
