How is he doing Belgianmum?
Belgianmum, I hope your son is okay. One of our children also had a fracture during a school ski trip so I do feel for you.
We finally got home from the hospital at 2am so we're all pretty tired but he's ok.
He has fractured his left tibia in threes places but they are all clean breaks so they managed to pull the keg back into alignment and his keg is immobilised from hip to toe. We will see on Friday if he has managed to avoid surgery.
He was brought to Neuchatel in the ambulance by two really lovely ambulance crew ( which was reassuring as it must have been quite daunting for him travelling alone and in pain) and they confirmed that the costs would indeed be covered by the accident insurance for which he has a zero franchise.
We have nothing but praise for all the staff who treated him both here, in the ambulance and at the medical centre in Leysin. We couldn't have asked for better treatment.
He was the fifth child they'd treated for ski injury in Neuchatel since 5pm yesterday but the only one who'd been transported from quite so far away.
I think over a week and 50k of costs, I paid the daily TV fee and for drinks.
Don't write off getting a plate put in, it sounds horrible but the recovery is often easier.
And you're being a proper Mum.....his leg's just broken - if it was badly-broken, they'd have operated soon afterwards Not that anything will change, my Mum was so shocked that her son (aged 30+) had busted his leg badly that she had to stop shopping. My Dad was very proud of me for that.....
A friend of mine just got socked with a CHF2000 bill, wondering if she will end up paying 100%, 50% or 0%....
I also got sent in another ambulance ride while I was hospitalised (not an emergency at all - just being sent to visit a foyer), and I don't seem to have been billed for that either...
Of course the relevant billing departments could just be very, very slow...
However, interhospital transfer bills are assumed by the transferring hospital.
