Android Auto for BMW 1 series

Hi there,

I recently bought BMW 1 series (December 2018 LCI-2 Petrol Coupé) and I'm not really happy with the Navi. Things like 'half-left' and 'half-right' really confuse me, also I believe the map hasn't been updated for the past 3 years... For past 1 month I started using Google Waze app on my phone, but was looking for a proper solution - as I don't like having multiple screens.

My car has just the rear parking sensors ( no reverse camera or font parking sensors).

I thought of buying Android Auto Kit and reverse camera & getting it installed from somewhere. Apparently, BMW service stations don't install non-BMW parts. Google search results don't show anything useful. The closest garage that I found was in Manchester, England

I also posted my query on ofriDOTch a month ago, but no response. Was wondering if any of you know a place in Zurich (or nearby) where I can get Android Auto/Rear Camera fitted on my BMW 1 series? Thanks

Any competent garage can install the parts. You can get a replacement MMI (for Carplay and Andy Auto) and a rear camera kit from Bimmertech (US but ship to CH). You'll probably need a wireless AA connection as I don't believe any of that models USB ports will carry the wired data, something like carsifi which I have in the Alfa (works really well with Radarbot!), I believe Motorola recently released an adaptor also.

I have been using it for about 6 months now, and can openly admit that its an excellent piece of kit.

I had some reservations about it when I was researching it, but since using it…its given me no problems at all.
