Ants

Traps didn't work for me either. If they are coming through open windows try spraying with permetrine or other insecticide the bottom part, you may have to repeat this when it loses effectiveness. If it's not windows check where they are coming out of and fill holes with glue or something like that, they can't dig through it.

We are really plagued by ants in the garden this year.. Building homes in the grass.. I mean sometimes pretty huge in quick time.. I think the issue is that the garden is surrounded by trees and hedges and the roots make gaps in the soil.. The ants further excavate these gaps and build mounds in the grass. As it gets drier they can dig more..

I've tried various powders and liquids and while they may kill that nest, it just moves a few meters away for a new one.. We have nests of little orange ones beside nests of big black ones beside nests of red and black biters..

The little fekers bite too, I dug out one of the nests, about a meter down, entangled in roots, full of larvae.. They were less than amused and bit me furiously

I think I need an industrial solution or learn to live with them.

I've read somewhere that the bites are good anti-rheumatic prevention.

We had similar last week. Landlord had some landscaping work done on the garden and the following morning our balcony was crawling with ants, so they must have disturbed a nest. I blasted them with this https://www.bauundhobby.ch/pflanzen-...00ml/p/4931344 It took about an hour to work and they haven't been back since.

About two years ago, I had a similar problem. I destroyed a home right next to my seating area and kind of blocked their trail with baking soda lines. They moved further out into the grass and built a new one, where neither of us bothered the other. I thought that was fair enough, there was space for all of us after all.

I also stopped planting roses as they were full of aphids (I mean FULL of them) and therefore also full of ants, which apparently kind of keep them as livestock . It was a bigger loss for the ants than for me I guess as the roses really did not look happy.

So, yeah, I'd say, try to get them to build somewhere a bit out of the way and live with them.

I had an an ant invasion a few days ago and although I bought these little anti-ant boxes from the Migros this didn't help although they worked in the past. They were all over the place, from the hall to the kitchen, the dining area, my office corner, they were running up and down the kitchen counter and I simply couldn't understand it. And then I found out. Those anti-ant boxes were obviously too old because the ants would walk in and out. So I bought a different more expensive anti-ant product also from Migros and this time I got rid of them very quickly

Effing Hell.

Ant explosion.

Need Nippon or something similar.

Using Maag’s Matil. It worked back in March.

This time, they are laughing at it and drinking it like I do wine.

The thread is over fifteen years old, so new suggestions please.

The way these ant boxes work is the workers pick up the nasty stuff and take it back to their nest. The queen eats it and dies over the next days. Once the queen dies the workers head down to the employment office and hang out. It isn’t like bug spray, it takes a few days.

Yes. I want this. Brand name?

Is this what you’re using? It works for us but does take a few days.

Ir the stuff in round containers at both the Coop or Migros.

I’ve used a Maag spray previously (the aforementioned Matil) which previously ended them. Combined with the green canisters for long term.

They didn’t get affected at all by the spray this time.

I’ve just purchased a different spray and canisters that are metal. Hopefully this works. I don’t feel like giving them all of my fresh produce.

So you are adding protein to your salad?

We had a problem with ants coming in under the door to our apartment 2 years ago, also our neighbour had them. The apartments in our building are open plan hall / kitchen livingroom so we didn't want an infestation.

If you want to use something more natural they don't like the smell of lemon or lavender. I bought lavender essential oil and a small plastic plant spray bottle. Mix one part essential oil with 10 parts water then spray and wipe the areas where they come in (I did outside in the hallway along to our 2 apartments plus the door mats as well). It worked a treat and we haven't had them since.

When husband was here on his own and renting a tiny studio flat there was a problem with them getting into his kitchen, there was a tiny pinhole gap between the skirting and the wall. We kept wiping all over with lemon antibac wipes and sealed the tiny gap with some clear silicone, again it worked a treat. For anyone who has an issue with shield back (stink) beetles, they hate the smell of essential oils and also tumble dryer sheets. Use the same essential oil spray or wipe the window frames and sills with a dryer sheet.

Be sure they aren't T. magnum:

Place gel bait along their trails for trophallaxis (workers taking bait back to the nest). Put on your specs and peer at a worker to ID it...not all bait works on all species.

LANDI is the farmer's shop where I go ! they have everything you need against ants and also good advice
