Any camera nerds here? Help me choose a camera

I guess it depends on what kind of photos you want to make; if you want to post on Instagram…an iPhone with all those filters is quite good.

You can shoot cinema quality video on the iPhone.

It’s not just Instagram and Snapchat.

Sony RX10 IV is a phenom. No longer on general sale but can be had new for 60-75% of the original retail price, if you look hard enough. Enough flexibility if you’re a ‘serious’ snapper, otherwise go full auto and never miss a shot.

“Cinematic mode” on the iPhone is not even remotely close to “cinema quality”. The marketing bullshit of Apple is phenomenal.

If you are going to print mostly 10x15cm or watch on a small screen, then a smartphone photo in daylight will look OK; the biggest difference is if the light is not regular bright daylight - then the noise makes the blotchy spots. That’s when the larger sensor cameras shine.

The new night function on the iPhone is brilliant I think. You can alter the exposure time and you don’t need a tripod. Yea I have more exposure control with my mirrorless - but I also need a tripod and remote all set up.

I picked up a canon powershot 50 for a few €‘s, was a bit sceptical about s do called bridge camera at first but that thing has convinced me. Especially the incredible zoom,
