So far I've had nice responce from Swiss design consultants in Zurich and have a couple of meetings set for next week. Reading about giving discounts - yeah - don't do it! We gave up a £200 000 client last year cos every job was getting more price conscious (the client was astonished!). Our turnover and workload dropped by about a third - but profit remained the same.
It'd be nice to hear from all you creative types in and around Zurich!

I'm so glad that you posted this question, I haven't logged on for a while and stoked to be able to reply. I'm a graphic designer originally from Australia and have been here for the last year and a half. I have been working since I got here, initially I was working for a big German adverting company and recently with a Swiss CI agency. Unfortunately now I am out of work and well since I have quite a bit of time on my hands would love to meet fellow creatives. Anyone interested?
Cheers
Franca
Not sure if i would go back to it now but i hope to use some of the highend engineering skills to create some interesting pieces of art.
If we move to Switzerland would be nice to meet up! Also interesting to read about the job prospects in this area. Maybe a guy from the UK would be looked on quite well? After all we're so stylish
I've decided to join the forum after reading this thread.
Back home, I've done graphic/web design, advertising (account management with a multinational but eventually doing creative work when my creative team needs extra hands on board), directed a few corporate videos and did events management. Pretty much an all rounder in the creative/advertising filed.
After a year of doing nothing here in die Schweiz (relatively nothing compared to my previous experience, I still do part-time design work for my partner's company as allowed in my B-Permit), I've had to do something creative and turned to photography.
I would love to work again but i have a non-eu B permit. No major complaints though. I should be so lucky not to have any of the horror stories I've read so far in the forum.
Anyway just wanted to say hi to all.
Cheers,
E.
I am bit worried to hear that many of you designers are not working much here, surely there are lots of wealthy banking clients needing brochures and leaflets and.....well.....stuff.
Maybe we should create a Swiss/Anglo creative company!
I'm pretty new here but there seems a thriving creative industry in Zurich, and Basle also so I have been told. I found a lot of design agencies on directories.ch, I contacted a few by e-mail and have had quite a positive responce. Working on my first commission right now!
Here's a short list of ad agencies with car accounts if you don't have it already:
Jung von matt limmat: BMW (Jung von Matt group also handles Mercedes Benz)
Publicis: Renault
Euro RSCG: Citroen
Hmm great idea on a swiss/anglo creative company. Sadly I'm not english
You might also want to try winkkreative run by Tyler Brulee of wallpaper fame.
Cheers,
Edwin
Thank you both for the suggestions, I found five design groups on my side of Switzerland which will be a good starting point, and I have contacted Publicis and Euro in Zurich but not Jung von Matt, so thanks for that tip. I actually worked with Tyler Brulee briefly years ago, before Wallpaper etc. I just contacted his new Magazine, 'Monocle' which I heartly recommend. I have also written to some US magazines like Fortune and Newsweek to tell them I am now based in the centre of Europe, maybe I will start doing a bit of editorial work again.
Thanks again for the much appreciated help.
N.
Haven't done any photo assiting work, but did video directing. Also did agency work in both creative work and account management.
I've heard about 'Monocle'. My local kiosk does not carry it so I'd have to find a copy.

Just thought I'd point out there's a graphics design job going for design of software apps:
http://www.phonak.com/company/jobs/c...s.htm?id=41891
I work at Phonak and would be happy to answer any questions by PM. I work as a software developer so this is for someone to design what my team will implement. The position is within Marketing and they really do need a good graphics designer (currently there's none). At the moment we're just given guidelines and have to do the nitty gritty designing ourselves. I must say our stuff's still pretty good but hey, so much better if a pro could do it.
cheers,
Nanda.
----------------- UPDATE ---------
I apologise for my haste it putting this up without confirming my assumptions. I've since clarified and the job is for printed marketing material and nothing to do with interaction design. Ah well!
In response to some of the PM's I received about the language - it appears that it's with a German speaking team so meetings will be in German though the supervisor does speak English (most people at Phonak do). German is required so little mistakes don't pop up in German materials so at least a little is required. But you never know, they do offer in-house beginner's German classes. Great English is a must though since first versions of the material is always in English.

But I'm not living in the Eidgenossenschaft... I'm a Swiss citizen living and working in Argentina.
Is anyone here interested in doing a small job for me? I need a professional animated ad done for a website. If anyone has the skills in this area let me know...
Thanks!
You can PM what you need?
Best regards.
