Any easy way to find your B permit type?

Why are you afraid of asking the authorities? Just make a simple 5 minute phone call to the Federal Migration Office in Bern (031 325 11 11), they will tell you everything you want to know about your permit.

Hi,

I had the same text in my Stellenantritt but the text " ein Stellenwechsel ist grundsätzlich nicht möglich" is now missing in the one that I got with my last renewal.

Does it mean i am a free bird or I still have some hidden constraints like "Project related permit" etc?

Hi all,

I would like to revive this thread, as I do not see anything that applies to my case.

I received my first B permit after 2 years with L ( I am a non-eu with unlimited contract). Here is my case:

-My permit card does not state the name of my company anywhere

-Neither my permit card nor my "stellenantritt" paper have the words "stellenwechsel nicht moeglich".

-the "stellenantritt" paper has the words "Frist Zur Ausreise" before my title and company name. (is this important???).

the permit has a duration of 1 year, renewable up to 36 mo. from Einreise.

any clues?

thx

What is your nationality ? It sounds like you have a 5 year limit, I wonder if you are from one of the countries where after 5 years you get a C permit ?

Is it enough to say I am not American, Canadian, Australian, etc. ?

my country does not require a visa to enter the Shengen area and theres very few of us in der Schweiz

So what is your actual question ? You have a Non-EU B permit. Not tied to your employer. Free to work. Will be renewed every year, provided that you have a job or are entitled to unemployment insurance.

No idea about why it has a 36 month limit - unless it's a 3 year pre-approved time limit before it gets reviewed again ?

Sorry!! I should have stated my question more clearly.

Am I actually free????

I had read in other threads that though the name is not in the card, the permit might still be attached.

I also read that there might be something in this "stellenantritt" paper, but nothing explicit like the person earlier in this thread.

I do not want to get my hopes up in vain,

does it really mean I am free?

Quickest way is to contact the authority that issued the work permit and check your status. A prospective employer can do this easily with a phone call. I actually have a letter that was issued that specifically states that I am free to work anywhere in Switzerland... they issued it to my employer, but she gave me a copy

So... I mailed a form I found here in the forum asking the AWA whether I can change jobs.

This form comes with a "multiple choice" section that the AWA agent is supposed to answer and mail back.

The options are:

a. you can change jobs, no need for any additional authorization

b. you can change jobs WITH an authorization

c. no you cannot change jobs because you are linked to a project.

but the answer I got was a handwritten note saying that my work permit is temporary and bound to my employer.

I thought that having a B permit meant that I should have gotten either answer a. or b.

has anyone seen anything like this??

are you EU or non-EU. ?

how long have you been in Switzerland ?

Do you have a photo permit which has the details of your employer printed on the back ?

Do you have a permanent, ongoing, open work contract ?

What is the end date for your employment contract ?

I am non-EU, i have been 2 years in CH, and I have a credit-card format permit that does not specify my company's name on the back.

My contract is permanent.

Thanks!

Have you actually completed 2 years employment ? Because that is when the 'tied' permits usually switch over for Non-EU to 'open' visas - possibly the person who wrote the note was basing it on your current status (this week) rather than your new permit which would be due...

I literally changed jobs the day I went from an 'L' dependent, with work permission, to a 'B' dependent - not a day sooner!

Were you on an L permit for the first two years ?

I just checked and that is probably it. The person signed the form 1 day before the expiry date of my L permit.

I completed 2 years last week during which I had L permit.

There is , however, an overlap between my B permit and L permit (the validity date of the B permit is 3 weeks before the expiry of the L)

Hi there,

I just called the AWA, they said that despite having a B, change of employer is not possible: "berufwechsel ist grundsätzlich nicht möglich".

I asked if could I change when my current employer agreed to let me go to a new job. And the person said no.

I do not understand anything anymore !!!

Is there a kind of B permit that cannot be changed at all??

What are my options if I do not want this job anymore and I do not want to go home either?
