Raw whale meat tastes like liver, and hakarl smells like cat litter that hasnt been changed for weeks. If you manage not to breathe while eating it its tasteless
I am planning to visit Iceland for the first time in June.
I have googled and done my research for my trip. Now, I just want some inside info from fellow members, who either have been or are from Iceland, about the must see places or hidden gems that are not usually listed on the net.
I am planning to do the Golden Circle trip, all around the island.
Tips about restaurants, bars, cafes, local food, sightseeing, landmarks etc are all welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Biggest piece of advise: when renting a vehicle, get a 4WD.
I found a bunch of great Airbnbs to stay in. One in particular was in Selfoss that I loved. It was on a horse farm.
Many puffins are on Westman Island. I got great photos. If you go in the evening 6-8 PM to the tip of the island (called the windiest place in europe) they are around more. I also recommend the vegan/organic restaurant on Westman Island-Gott.
Lonely Planet Iceland book is really good for lodging/restaurants.
There are lots of hot springs other than the Blue Lagoon and most of the towns have a public pool/hot springs that's pretty affordable.
In Reykjavik, I'd recommend Harry's for dinner. It was delicious.
Just driving the ring road will give you a really enjoyable trip.
Had dinner at Harry's. The lamb shank was fantastic.
Took a regular car as the intention was not to drive up to the glaciers this time around. Blue Lagoon was just ok. Saw a lot of horses, but did not book a riding excursion.
All in all, it was a great trip and I would love to do it all over again.
Thought someone might find it inspiring if they're thinking of a holiday next year.
