Kyburg (150 CHF for a 18 hole .... that is too much in my view!).
Affoltern am Albis did sound very reasonable (18 hole = 40 CHF, 9 hole = 20 CHF) and they really say: no Platzreife is needed, which means I could get on this one with my German Platzreife....
Fricktal seems a bit in the middle of nowhere (bearing in mind that I do not have a car!).
Which leaves Affoltern am Albis as a good option until I get my HCP sorted (approaching the 40-50 already .... down from 90). Hope to get to the 36 still while I am here in London.
Now I just need someone to join once I am back in Züri (Mid September)
Does Affoltern have a website?
They are the association which supports "normal" golfing and where ASG members can officially play on the courses listed without being totally looked down on, as is unfortunately the case with many Swiss clubs. If you click around their website a bit, you'll also find a map showing all member clubs and whether they're 9 or 18 hole. A link will take you to the individual clubs' homepages.
I will have to wail another three weeks for my internet as my application was misplaced and it sucks big time.... Soon I will be able to speak more with you guys, Anyone (single?) up for going to Hinwil on wednesday the 24 th, its a singles night. There is this great place there called The Pirates www.thepirates.ch and I was there yesterday and it really rocks. Would appreciate talking to someone in Switzerland and perhaps take a beer at the same time. See you and keep golfing.

Will post again end of the week ... Hope we will manage to play a round until the end of the season
Cheers

I have the same problem. I never got a handicap sorted out in the UK and now find myself with nowhere to play in CH. I just spoke to a friend of mine who is a member of what used to be my local club in the UK. (Although I was never a member) He has shown me the follwing website which can provide you with a handicap for a modest fee. You only need to send in 3 score cards signed by you and the other players to get a handicap. You can then update your scores online and ask for a new handicap as you improve.

May be worth joining. I have so I'll soon knwo if it works out OK.
Thank God for the search facility as I was going to make a similar post.
I have just taken up golf again after a 20 year break. Like a lot of people, I have been hitting the Driving Ranges as getting on to a course is a feat and a half in Switzerland. It would appear that No HCP equals no play.
It is possible to join this organisation: http://www.asgi.ch/
The whole approach to golf overhere seems so contrived that I joined a golf club in London, Muswell Hill Golf Club as a Country Member. It was cheap and hassle free. I booked a day with the Pro, David Wilton, who gave me three hours of instruction, then played 18 holes with me, and most importantly signed me off for my HCP for GBP 250, (CHF 500) which I thought was a bargain.
I have played at Nuolen, which is a nice course (we got rained off, so I only got to play 6 holes ), but my understanding of golf in Switzerland is that it does take literally half a day to play here! Anyway, I am looking for a golf partner for this weekend. I am trying to find an 8am tee off for Saturday if anybody is interested?
Or how about organising a. EnglishForum.Ch Golf Society?

I started playing golf in June, in Lausanne. I am on a 12 month course with 15 hrs of tuition. I have had 12 and can knock a ball around reasonable well. There is a 6 hole course that I can get round in about par. Havent got an AP or handicap yet. Is there anybody who would like a game soemtime.
It seems we should start a calendar for this, waht u guys/gals say?

Btw, I have a hcp card and am usually available for a round nearabouts Zurich.
I was in Otelfingen last weekend to get some information, and told the Lady at the counter, I played in Scotland and my Handicap is 22. I had loads of questions re. equipment hire, tournaments etc, so it was obvious I was new in Switzerland. She did not mention anything about "Platzreife", so I would go and give it a try there. All my golf stuff is still in scotland, as I prioriticed clothes higher, when i drove down here. -what was I thinking to leave my clubs behind ?
I help a friend move this weekend, so can not sign up for Flutterby's game on 5th, but I would be interested in joining a game on 11 or 12 october.
And by the way -they have an offer, where you can get a ticket for unlimited play until end of the year for 510 chf.
Doc.
Round is €38, as I have still only a Platzreife I did the 9 hole 4 times this weekend. Saturday was exquisite. Everyone's very friendly with even the ranger chatting to us by the time we were beginning our 4th time out.
I might even join.
For those with a car nr ZH, it's an alternative to the Swiss clubs as your HC is recognized by both the ASG in CH and the DSV in Germany.
Of course they recognize other foreign handicaps too and in addition to German, Swiss, Dutch, French and Austrian HCs, PRs and PEs.
So I've gotten the bug again, anyone interested in more details? I'd recommend it for peeps looking for a handicap recognized here.
Oh and the restuarant is great, had excellent ribs yesterday with large German portions to fortify us in the rain.
