Anyone used Luker Bros UK-CH-UK removals?

Thanks that's good to know! I think we are going to get the Luton van option and I'll let the drivers decide if they want to do Chunnel or ferry. What's the difference driving hours wise? Lucy did you look at the Hull ferry option?

Miss Doolittle: the dogs have never flown but have longish distance driven in crates when we have gone to the south coast camping and the like. One of them is profoundly deaf from birth and quite an anxious soul and would definitely cry the whole time (or a large part of it) that he was separated from us. :-/

We also drove our dogs here, we moved ourselves, looked at van hire but the costs where silly, make sure you double check mileage allowances on the hire. We ended up borrowing a large trailer, stuck a roof rack on the car, filled it up, stuck stuff on the roof and filled the trailer.

We didn't do it all in one go though as we kept our house in the UK for a few years till we bought out here, so did 2 'big' trips but lots of little ones

Interesting that my vet just said the dogs need ZERO paperwork to go to CH.... She said its coming back to the UK when they need the pet passport.... I'm thinking of getting it anyway for them just to be on the safe side....

Get the pet passport in the UK. (a) it's one less thing to worry about when you get here, and (b) the rabies jab has to be done 21(28?) days before you travel for it to be effective. Unless your dogs have already been vaccinated for rabies, I think your vet is nuts.

We did look at the ferry, but the dogs have to travel in kennels in the hold, not in the cabin and we weren't sure they'd cope well. However, we travelled by car and I'm not sure that you can take Lutons on the train.

A luton would go in the lorry section of the train which yiu can stay in the cab if you want. I assume op has a car as well.

Sort the passport out in the uk that way you know for sure it will be accepted if you ever go back

The vet didn't mean we didn't need the vaccinations she meant we could travel with no additional papers. I think for the sake of £100 it's worth getting the pet passport done in the UK. as soon as he signs on the dotted line (hopefully next week) I'll book their rabies shots as they're likely to head off mid August I reckon.

We do have a car but wouldn't be taking it to CH. Hubby and his mate would road trip it and me and the sprogs follow a few weeks later par avion

Lisa, strapped for time now as I managed go enroll OH to go garden furniture shopping, but will send you a juicy customs story custom later. I shall also email you my list of items which I prepared to accompany the form 18.44. I had my list translated in German and all.

Have a great weekend.

CM

Lisa, just sent you an email with the list (in English and German) of household items I prepared for the importation of our household goods earlier this year. I used the form 18.44 (sent you the link), which is fairly straight forward.

You now have proof that I don't do minimalist .

Yes!!! very recently oct 2017..I was looking for a trustworthy moving company to ship my daughter's personal belongings from geneva to the uk. found luker from the previous post. called up and it was the only one i picked; i liked them immediately. spoke to the geneva expert; they come to geneva couple times a month; had an offer, very reasonable (20 boxes different sizes, no furniture); no weight issue with the boxes; fixed the date and time and from pick up to delivery it was great. multiple touch base calls, update emails even late at night, totally nice personnel and my contact was great (01865-740714 direct).

I paid before, sent the confirmation and the rest just happened. They made it easy. Oh and the truck was big and i got a few last minute boxes picked up as well and one glass frame decent size. nothing broke! they were great! highly recommend. thank you Luker!

We have used Luker Bros quite a lot over the last five years to transport furniture and household goods from London to Montreux. They are very good.

I used Aspin International to move a studio apartment's worth of stuff from Zurich to London, and then back again 2 years later. Competent and guided me through the paperwork. It was about £1100 for a really big van of stuff on dates of my choosing (not shared with anyone), but the catch was that I had to help unload at either end.

Just read this article recently about Luker Bros. Has anyone had any recent experience with them ?

https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/23...acey-emin-art/

That appears to relate to things stored with Luker Brothers. We've used them a few times, not involving storage, and everything was good.

Thanks the problem is they only pickup/deliver every other week now ( I wonder if that is because they have reduced business now due to this happening ?) What that means for us is that our things would have to go into storage.... it just made us a bit uncomfortable.

I would guess more likely due to Brexit, increased costs for fuel, etc, than the fact that an employee was finally jailed for something that happened years ago.

Hello!

Just wanted to share an update.

We moved the rest of our things from the U.K. to Switzerland.

We paid for this move ourself and it excluded furniture (as we moved all that with the company paid move over) so I think we had around 25small boxes. The biggest thing was an old PC, but it was mostly books, clothes, bathroom and kitchen items.

Sorry, I don’t know the cubic metre volume of the load.

What we liked about the company:

1. The price for them packing, their cardboard boxes and incl insurance was £1600 and this was the cheapest we could find after a few quotes.

2. They were friendly, and had clearly worked together as a team

3. Unlike many other companies they know the U.K.-CH route as that’s all they do and they do the entire route with our things ie we liked it didn’t get passed onto another company which is what happened when the company paid for us

4. We were given exact dates for collection and delivery from the start which was great for helping us to plan. It was nice to have a named person who looked after the move. It’s a small company and many have worked together a long time.

5. They collected our cardboard boxes some weeks later when we asked them to do that. Even though we didn’t have a lot, we were extremely grateful for this as we didnt have access to a car and our local recycling in CH doesn’t pick up cardboard outside our building we would have had to store it all or to take it to the recycling centre by bus

The only thing that could have been better (and I wonder if we had been a

larger move if this would have been the case) was the quality of packing. I think it could have been more tidy. The boxes were taped in a more haphazard manner and it’s visible. The items packed together were just sort of put in a box to cram in as much as possible and it’s not always the most tidy.

We had a company called “Ashley’s of Sussex” pack in the U.K. the first time and I could not fault them, it was so carefully and tidy.

Oh and the quality of the cardboard boxes at Lukas Bros was not as good as Ashley’s of Sussex.

I would definitely recommend Lukas Bros for quick, reasonably priced, end to end friendly service. Equally I would highly recommend Ashley’s of Sussex if you want careful meticulous attention to packing and good quality boxes, but be prepared to pay a premium!

I hope this helps !!

2nd part of our move just being packed up now. Luker Bros have been very helpful as before. They dropped off some of their boxes for packing books along with packing tape a few weeks ago.

They’re back to weekly pick ups/deliveries so I guess it was just a Brexit/Covid thing before.

Oops, my bad. Seems they are doing every 2 weeks now.
