It appears that the accu of the left AirPod has had it. It disconnects every time after about 30 seconds. 
Well if you have an iPhone you can check the Battery status. Apple does this.

If the electrical contact on the ear bud, or in the bud charger is dirty then it may not be charging.
Mine (non-Apple of course) did that and so I cleaned both with a cotton ear bud soaked in isopropanol and had no more problems.

No. Have tried them in another case which works well. Its the same problem. The left ear bud showed 90% full but cuts out after 30 secs.
Did you clean the bud contacts too?

No, not in the bag. Surely Zurich has electrical waste recycling. Or drop them off at any retailer. They are required to rake them, even if they didn’t sell them.
You can buy ThinkPad brand on ali for ~20. Looks good and surprisingly are good, though I still prefer over-air headphones.
