Apple vs Chinese smartwatches

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you’ll eventually get something out of it that gives you pleasure.

They’re not better than a phone - unless you are a runner and don’t want to carry a phone with you.

As I wrote before - I really don’t think you need one, nor would benefit from one. I love mine - but for reasons which are not applicable to you.

I find the timer app the most useful feature, it’s so convenient to tap on your watch to let it keep the time for you.

Time, Alarms, calendar. From the fancy things, I like GPS tracking, when I’m going to try a new cycling route, or just explore off the cycling tracks, I like to be able to review the whole journey later on my laptop, particularly if there were nice segments worth returning to but some bad segments should be avoided.

This!

BZZZZ - GO TO THE DENTIST!
BZZZZ - PARENTS EVENING AT SCHOOL!

Yes, I can have that on my phone (and it is, because they are connected) but the bzzz on my wrist is really helpful.

I particularly like the Reminders on my phone, particularly for things like ‘check water softener salt every two months’. Could use the Calendar but the way it handles repeats doesn’t fill up our shared calendar.

Why not use the points to donate to a good cause? I once used mine to donate to doctors without borders.

me too, I didn’t said that I use the calendar for reminders on the watch, I use it occasionally for planning, calculating dates on the go, it’s more convenient to check it on the watch than drawing up the phone from the pocket

PS. as a matter of fact I do not sync my phone with the watch, precisely because of that, I don’t want anything to BZZZ on my wrist, I will hear the phone anyway so what’s the point of pushing that to the watch

Not sure whether to post this here or in the blood pressure monitoring thread but Huawei have launched the world’s first watch which measures blood pressure alone without being linked to an external sensor:

The watch contains an air bag and miniature pump to enable the measurements to be taken.

This looks really interesting. I wonder who will come up with a good solution for the ECG measurements as the low number of electrodes seems to be the limiting factor on the watches at the moment.

I had for a while an oversized Tissot t-touch connect, and finally sold it while I still could

I must say that for the price, a smart watch is a tremendous value from the technical point of view. Yes, I know, Apple has a big markup on them, but, despite that, such a smart watch is still an absolute bargain for what you get compared to even cheapest “luxury” thousand francs watch that can be manufactured for tens of francs and its main cost is heavy marketing and retail.

However watch out that these might not let you setup in Switzerland. I had to setup my GT2 Pro ECG whilst in EU, however it works since then. Hopefully they won’t introduce more restrictions than before (a simple geo lock in the mobile app).

This has obvious implication that it won’t be available in Swiss shops.

These actually look interesting.

Another cheap knock off from copy everything China

I don’t think we can say that any more.
It definitely used to be the case but now many consumer electronic products from robot vacuum cleaners to cars are far superior to anything designed in the West.

Sure we can

Relax, it’s a watch with a GPS. It’s a tool. There is no aesthetic value on it. No pleasure or experience can be derived from it. No hedonic value at all. It’s a measurement tool indistinguishable from other measurement tools.

It may even come from the same factory of Apple watches and assembled by the very same workers with the very same components. It just has a different label on it.

Sorry, but who are you to decide what has aesthetic value or not?

Personally, although valuable financially, I think Rolex watches, for example, are ugly looking things even though some people seem to like them.

Everyone is free to decide what has aesthetic value or not. Since I’m part of everyone, I can; and my opinion is as valid as anyone’s opinion.

Then preface your text with “I think that…” or “In my opinion”.

The way you write it sounds like yours is the final word.

The word you’re looking for is assertiveness.
