Hello all

What means in the swiss school system "Arbeiten sorgfältig"?

I see this statement each time when my kid is changing the teachers.

When i ask what is the problem and the kid is correcting the issue, next teacher has same observation.

Next teacher means when changing the grade, i.e. from 1.st/2.nd school years to 3.rd/4.th years then to 5.th/6.th

I assume there must be a swiss style of "sorgfältig Arbeiten"...

Does it say sorgfältig or sorgfältig er ?

In this context sorgfältig is something positive while sorgfältiger means that work needs to be done more thourough.

I don't really understand your post. Can you make it clearer?

Is this a remark that was in the Zeugnis that your son received?

Was it "arbeitet sorfältig"? Then it was a praise. Meaning he works neatly and probably is able to concentrate.

Was it "sorgfältiger arbeiten"? then it means that he needs to work on that. Meaning is not concentrating enough, the work is sloppy (too many mistakes, messy writting, papers not orderly).

But you should talk to your son and if he doesn't know what it means, talk to the teacher

“Works carefully and exactly”

As said above, you need to determine if it was praise or a skill that needs to be improved. If your child hands in sloppy work, it may be something they need yo work on.

Yes, sorry, my fault it is written "sorgfältiger arbeiten!" on some tests he receives at school, especially math and german

I'd translate this as "work more diligently" or "work more carefully and exactly". On a test, it could mean several things:

-He does not read the questions carefully and therefore answers them incompletely or doesn't answer what was asked.

-He makes mistakes because he's working to fast/not proofreading his answers.

-He does not study carefully enough and therefore only answers superficially/part of what was asked.

-He does not show his work in maths/the "Lösungsweg" is not what was asked.

Often, teachers demand a certain way of dong things. Now, on first glance, you could say as long as the results are correct, thy should give full points. But leaving out the "Lösungsweg" would not show the teacher that a child has understood the topic and not just happened uppon the solution by accident/cheating. Also, in a lot of jobs, you have to do things "just so". At uni, you have to cite your sources correctly etc. And don't get me started on my "Steuererklärung"..... So they have to learn to read assignments diligently and deliver exactly what was asked.
