A stolen handbag and contents are NOT covered in standard household insurance, only for burglary from the house itself. Luckily though, the additional jewellery coverage did cover the most expensive items
Checking to see if travel insurance does cover theft of items - will revert. I'm not optimistic
This means that they are only covered if you have an out of house add on to the cover. If you have for example a 3000 Franc out of house simple theft cover you can claim 1500 for stolen keys. If you have no out of house cover for anything then keys are not insured.
Also noteworthy: Liability insurances only tend to cover the loss of OFFICE or BUSINESS keys, cards etc.. NOT personal residences.
I guess there is a feature with multi-lock keys that doesn't require all locks to be changed. Thank God!
Infact it is also covered if you loose your keys only if you insurance coveres the loss due to misplacement (e.g you loos your back on train and you are not sure if it was tolen or you missplaced it in travel)
So, I would suggest OP to to check with thier insurance compony and landlord.
What were the circumstances of the loss that resulted in your insurance paying for the replacement?
- Simple loss outside the home?
- theft outside the home?
- theft in the home?
I'm trying to figure out if I am covered for a recent loss.
Cheers,
Paul
No you're not, you're trying to diddle your insurance company
I have a bit of a situation at the moment, will gladly hear your views. I am leaving my flat in a few days, and a roommate was supposed to send me one of the keys through postal office. The letter did not manage to arrive for some unclear reason and was actually sent back to the sender - it's been 7 days and we have had no news since then.
The real estate agent is obviously expecting all the keys, and I am worried he might want to change all the locks because of the (so far) missing key. The thing is the key is not lost or stolen, but more "on a trip" (with a tracking number available).
Could the agent legitimately ask to change the locks in this context (since there's apparently little to no risk of burglary)?
My insurance (Smile Direct) told me that since the status of the key is unclear, it is too early to speak about covering any expenses that might arise. Hence I have no clue whether they would reimburse me should the locks be replaced... (with the possibility of the key arriving just a few days later).
Any thought on this matter?
Thank you,
Shaka
It's only what you are telling them, could be a complete scam too
You will have a few days to get the key back to the regie after handover, tell them you forgot it at your Mothers' house and it's being sent back right now and as soon as you've got it, you'll drop it over personally.
Or pay for a new lock
I was thinking that the Postal service tracking system showing that the package was still on its way would be a good proof in itself, but I guess they might question whether it's the actual keys that are inside... is that what you hint at?
Hopefully the situation gets clearer next week, and we can finally put our hands on the damned keys since this is driving me nuts. I really hope the regie will be understanding, even if it does not necessarily have to.
I don't mind paying new keys if I have to, since I might not be able to bring them in time - I'll pay for this temporary mess. It's changing the locks that would be frustrating since I kind of know where the keys are, and they are "simply in transit".
Thanks anyway,
Shaka
Post is liable for 500 CHF if the letter was sent registered, the rest you'd have to claim from your insurance or your friend or pay out of pocket or deposit.
