Bummer. Perhaps Grok is less difficult, otherwise any other of the probably many dozens open AIs out there.
I tried ChatGPT, but it can’t compare faces. It concluded from the two links and from other info it supposedly searched online that they’re most likely different people.
Grok concludes it’s the same person (“The full name matches exactly, the ages align (a man who was 32 in ~2005 would be in his early-to-mid 60s in 2025)…”). (Grok is apparently as bad at arithmetic as I was on Friday evening (while sober).)
The age gap would certainly suggest that they’re different people. Can’t get over how similar they look, though, at least to me.
You’re combining two tasks: Age the younger by X years (or make the other younger), and compare the resulting picture.
Separating the two tasks is likely to produce better results, not least because you can chose whichever AI is specialised for either task.
OK, I asked Grok to:
- make the older man look 15 years younger. Result: “No response. This model is temporarily unavailable. Please try a different model.”
- make the younger man look 15 years older. Result: Grok was apparently unable to detect a photo in the BBC article and started an endless search for other photos online.
I told Grok to “make the man in this picture 15 years older”, providing the URL to the small fotograph in your second link (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40126000/jpg/_40126316_darrenkirby203.jpg).
This is the result:
