Now i get it! I ́ve been trying to figure it out for days...

im affected too

i love aspargus..............

Another category must be added for smelly farts too.

I ain't starting that poll !! and that would DEFO have to be anonymous.

SwissCath, I believe that recent research has actually changed that thought.

Basically, just like cyanide (which smells like bitter almonds to some people), the ability to smell asparagus-urine is genetic.

And now I'm going to get kind of gross, so if you don't want to read, move on:

There was a study a year or two back in which subjects who said their urine smelled were asked to smell the urine of people who said that their urine didn't smell after eating asparagus (and vice versa). Those "smelly urine" subjects were able to identify the "asparagus urine" of those who claimed they couldn't smell it.

So, it's not the urine itself, but the ability to smell the offending urine that is genetic.

Aren't you happy you weren't part of that study?

Eat on, asparagus lovers!

interesting, thanks for that. So I guess all in my family have the gene.

At technorama there is a substance on one of the tables that only certain people can smell. I thought if smelled really foul, but neither my husband or boys could smell it. anyone else been there and tried it?
