AVS payments

AVS

I don’t live in Switzerland, but I do have a PostFinance account. It is where my (meager) AVS lands every month. I am thinking of closing that account, but I need to find a way to receive my AVS.

To the best of my knowledge, AVS will not pay to another person (I have family in Switzerland to whom it could be paid). Nor will AVS make payments other than to a bank account.

Is the above information correct? Do you have suggestions as to ways I can achieve my goal (i.e. get my AVS without having a bank account)?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Just get it switched to the bank where you are now? They won’t pay it to anything other than a bank account far as I know.

Perhaps some of the explanations on this Swiss government site will help:

Right to payment of an OASI (in French AVS, in German AHV) pension out of Switzerland

That's my understanding, too.

My only other bank is in the US.

Thanks for the link. I will read it carefully.

Thank you both for your input.

They will also pay it to a foreign bank account.

Thank you for this bit of info. Definitely something I need to check.

I currently collect pensions from the UK, France and Germany and they're all happy to pay into my Swiss bank account. All they needed was an IBAN and a BIC/Swift code. I would be surprised if there was any problem for the AVS to do otherwise.
