Doing the ID side of things is no problem, but they ask for “copies of foreign certificates of employment which state the periods of contributions to the relevant national society security systems (work certificates and salary statements)”.
Now I might have some of hubby’s 24+ years old UK pay slips hiding somewhere, but would they be enough? Far as I know the UK doesn’t do anything like work certificates and salary statements. And I can’t remember what, if anything, I provided when I applied for my Swiss pension.
Anyone done this and what did you provide, if anything?
Well my understanding was that it was up to the AVS authorities to sort this out with the other member states.... When I did it a few years ago all I did was give them my Irish Personal Public Service (PPS) number and the years I worked in Ireland....
Perhaps it has changed or it is different now with a third country....
The NI statement may be useful, though I’ve still got to find his P60’s it seems. He’s not old enough for a UK State pension yet. Has another year before he can apply for that.
When I applied for my Swiss pension I also had to apply for the UK one and that was done through the Swiss office as far as I know. Maybe because the claiming age was the same for both of them.
I thought having to fill in 11 pages for hubby’s Swiss pension was bad enough, but when I checked my UK scanned pension pages there were 19 of them!
That is for a forecast only. You can apply well in advance of the actual retirement and get an idea of what, based on the recorded contributions, the pension will be. You get an idea of what you can do to enhance it (buying extra years) but beware of long processing times and short deadlines.
This seems strange. When I went through the retirement process, it was the AVS who organized my foreign pension applications, including my UK pension. I believe the only thing I had to supply them with was my dates of employment in the UK as well as my National Insurance number. I obviously had long lost any trace of that, but the UK authorities supplied me with that fairly promptly, though they still live in the stone age and the only method of communications was snail mail.
Yeah, I did both because I became eligible for both at the same time. Because hubby is a bit younger than me he isn’t eligible for his UK pension until 2024 and all being well we’ll have moved back to the UK before then so I assume he’d apply for that there.
I haven’t found any P60’s/P45’s for either of us, but I did find a form I filled in when applying for my pension where I listed all my employment info so I’ve made a similar version for hubby and hope that will be enough for the Swiss end to get the info they need. Luckily I did manage to find his NI number since that’s on UK tax returns. So with that and the employment info I’m hoping that’ll work.
And thank you HMRC. Thought I’d try and see what info, if any, I could find on hubby’s personal account. Nope. Hasn’t been used for 3 years so HMRC have deleted the user ID and password for your security and to stop scammers. Gee, thanks for letting me know. Have to get a new user ID from them and that can take up to 21 days for people who are abroad. This despite it saying on the website you don’t need the user ID to access your personal account.
Oh well, UK employment info it is and hopefully the Swiss pension office can sort it all out.
Okay, maybe a silly question, but in the supporting documents part it mentions confirmation of place of residence. Is this covered by our residence permits or is this something you need to get from your commune admin office? I would guess it’s something that only Swiss nationals might need, but not sure.
