I'm a UK B permit holder. I'm currently subletting an appartment until the end December. I'm planning on being out of the country for all of January, and I wondered if I am allowed to not have a rentral contract during that month, and then just look for another appartment from February onwards. Or this not allowed under the B permit?
Maybe nothing happens. However, if someone makes a few questions it’s not that hard to find out if someone has been more than 6 months outside of Switzerland. Also consider that the landlord may have already announced to the municipality/gemeinde that you’re not living there (the sublet): Drittmeldepflicht.
Medea Fleecestealer: I haven't left Switzerland, in fact I've only just arrived. My question was just about being out of the country in January and not renting a place during January. And as far as I know, my B permit is tied to my employer.
Axa: Thanks for the link to Art 61. It looks then like I might be fine, since I plan to be outside of the country for less than 3 months?
Ah, I was reading it as you’re were subletting your apartment to someone else.
As Axas said your landlord may report that you’ve “moved out” to your commune/gemeinde which might cause problems. Personally I wouldn’t risk it and would just arrange the new place from beginning of Jan if you can even if you aren’t going to be there.
