For an uninsured bike that is allowed on trails it's 250w nominal power (EU norm replicated in CH), and in the latest motors that is over 700+w peak and about 500+w real average power. The assistance is limited to speeds upto 25kph but the only way the bike knows that is by wheel circumference in the software, so that can be hacked... that said the gearing is such that increasing the limit only really makes a difference uphill, not much on the flat, and definitely not downhill.
My eMTBke is mostly set 30% of max assist (so if I pedal at 200w, 380w at the crank) and max 60% motor power (so about +300w max).... enough to get me up very steep hills (25degrees+) and be more than fast enough on any trail shared with others.
Running the bike at 100% everything is like the demo mode on a big TV... you turn it down after burning rubber for a few rides...
I think e-bikes are great.
There are lots of 70 and 80 year old people who are now able to get back on a bicycle and get up the hills thanks to e-bikes.
Like you lot on this thread, it's re-assuring to know that when I get to your age, I'll still be able to carry on cycling!
One more passive-aggressive comment in EF that offers absolutely nothing!
Ebikes are for everyone. They are for fat, lazy and old but they are also for fit people who want to go to their work without sweating like a pig, or who commute for long distances that are simply too long to be done without support. For people carrying a trailer with 2 kids and the groceries of the week and for others who want to save the world from the fumes of one more car.
I am glad that you are in perfect condition and consider that ebikes are only for people more than 70yo, but then since you are young and strong, why are are you even reading and replying to this thread?
Passive-aggressive:
Behaviors are those that involve acting indirectly aggressive rather than directly aggressive
Tongue-in-cheek:
The idiom tongue-in-cheek refers to a humorous or sarcastic statement expressed in a mock serious manner
The latter was the intention.
I don't disagree with you. Lots of good reasons to have one.
I'm neither of those and I'm definitely not in perfect condition.
Did you get what you wanted out of this thread?
I have three Ebikes:
A fairly passive one, front wheel hub motor-conversion cost SFr 600
A really aggressive one (45 kmh)- rear wheel hub motor SFr 2000 on special offer from Coop
and my favorite, a passive aggressive with an aggressive 750 Watt mid-motor passified to 24kmh electronically but with a manual throttle -conversion cost 800SFr about five years ago
