Best district in Basel for a good family life?

We are moving to Basel-Stadt and we are wondering which district is the best for quality of life and raising kids?

for green and perceived safety you could check out gellert, breite, bruderholz, the area between unispital-spalentor-kannenfeldpark-st johanns park, bachletten, each a bit different. further out riehen and bettingen

Why perceived safety?

Yeah. A place where the kids can play when it's dark. Where do the rich people live, basically?

Which districts are bad?

Because there is always the random event....

A young woman goes for a run along a canal in the countryside, something she has done 100s of times before. There has not been a murder nor a serious assault in the area in liking memory but this time she does not come back.... It happened just over a week ago in Ireland, in a community were safety was taken for granted.

maybe you can clarify your criteria. do you want where the rich people live, or best quality of life, or best for raising kids?

They have an empty residence somewhere in Schwyz for tax reasons, and live in estates around the word where weather is warm and nice most of the time, food is tasty and fresh and the working force is cheap to take care of their whims.

If I were to move back to Basel and money was abundant. I would go for Gellert, Bruderholz or Riehen.

If you want family life, Basel-Land would probably be better. You can still work in Basel Stadt.

We lived in the Claraplatz area for close to 10 years. Ideal for a couple without kids. Apparently one of the roughest parts of Basel - still tame compared to inner-city areas in the UK. There are a couple of play parks nearby, but not really an area for a toddler to run around safely - trams, traffic etc. We moved to Zurich mostly because of my work situation and the place we moved to offered more park area etc for our wee boy.

As NotAllThere has suggested, Baselland (outside the city) will offer more green/off-road spaces that are child friendly. The key here is to be close to public transport and be close enough to the city that you are not out in the sticks.

Avoid Bärschwil.

This is the general consensus. I live in one of these areas and know the other two and schools are good, it's green, kids play outside.
