Best place to Buy a TV in Switzerland (Geneva area if brick and mortar)

You can get deal alerts from here

And here there are frequent offers - Got a top notch Samsung 4K for less than 700 about two years ago, most online stores were still asking double that.

You can get some really good deals if you shop around a bit. Stores will suddenly put a model on sale for no obvious reason dropping it a few hundred francs, while similar stores still have it at the regular price. Also, above a certain amount, some online stores will ship for free (or you can order online for pick up at a local store for free). When you get here, sit down with your laptop and look at all the websites that the folks here have given you and see what the best deal is for what you are looking for.

We spent 7 years in Japan (worked in Tokyo, lived in Yokohama) and loved it there. We found the culture shock moving back from Japan was far greater than moving to Japan. People in Japan had been so helpful and so customer oriented, and that is not always the case here unfortunately...

To be fair your original question implied (or as I read it anyway) that it wasn’t possible to find a tv you want and order it online in Switzerland. You probably would have got a more useful response if you’d worded it differently “Who is the best online retailer for TVs in Switzerland?” For example.

Costco is big in Japan, and non-existant in Switzerland. Amazon is even bigger in Japan, and I've read that Amazon to Switzerland is fraut with problems. Both of those are the places to get the best deals on electronics in Japan, where these items are rather expensive at most electronic shops. Where we lived in Jakarta, we found that the electronic shops were largely overpriced rip-offs, until we found the markets were people got better prices.

I was unaware of any comparable vendors to either Costco or Amazon and was looking for that information, many of the other posts here gave me the information that I was looking for. I was quite sure that Switzerland has televisions, I just didn't know where people shopped for good deals on them.

Something my wife and I truly regret every day...

Thanks. I plan to use the websites! I'm happy that I won't have to run to half a dozen shops to compare models and can just do so on line. I used to get culture shock coming from Japan ... but I discovered I missed many things outside of Japan... and the customer service here has fallen off - not such a big gap from what I get in the US. Switzerland will certainly have it's good and bad points, but I genuinely don't enjoy dealing with tv salesfolks in my first language, let alone in one I'm not fluent in yet... so the internet sites provided are a real help!

I'm assuming that the hypermarkets in France will be a monthly stop, similar to how I treat Costco currently... I'm gonna miss my bails of toilet paper and the monthly USDA Prime steaks from Costco, I guess, but I think I'll survive.

These are things that are going to be a learning curve for me as well!

I have a LG (or a Samsung - I forget which) 4K that we got at Costco for about half price... I thought it was mainly because the Korean brands are less popular in Japan...

The two most popular brands sold in CH are LG and Samsung. Sony is in a distant third place. The most popular sizes will be the 50-55" and the 65" models. Each fall you have the model changeover, so the selling out of the current year models starts soon. If you do not need the bleeding edge, you can save some serious money on buying the current year after the introduction of the new models.

As others have mentioned, but let me put it in a possibly different form, there is no one place to get the perfect deal. The on-line retailers are all on the price comparison site: toppreise.ch. You can look there, and you can put price alerts for anything that interests you. But the bricks and mortar stores can also be very attractive on sell out products. The key electronics stores (think Best Buy in the US) are Interdiscount (Coop), Melectronics (Migros), Fust (Coop), MediaMarkt (German chain) etc. Conforama (French) tends to have good pricing on models that are +/- 2 years behind, but depending on your budget/interest could be interesting. Each of these have flyers that come out at least once per month and are available in-store and in your mailbox if you accept advertising (little stickers on the mailbox). These should be available on their websites as well.

From my experience, Melectronics tends to have some of the best prices on higher end TVs that are being moved through in the fall. Be sure to watch for their upcoming flyers.

All the CH websites for these companies will have the ".ch" for Switzerland. They will be in the 3 main CH languages but not normally EN, so you will need to use Google Translate.

I would not bother with the France option, as the choice and pricing in CH tends to be better. Chains like Darty are not at the same level as the CH stores.

Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Fust tended to be cheapest for the models we looked at.

If you have a Coop Supercard (loyalty card) you get points there too which is handy for big purchases.

It's not a legitimate question - first thing anywhere is searching for the model you want

Then, you live/work in Switzerland and claim you cannot do similar in Geneva with pricing or delivery

There are price comparison tools within the country (Toppreise, for example - which you did not ask but rather automatically reverted to outside the country) and plenty of brick & mortar stores to view & ask questions on models/brands etc. Moreover, you indeed could buy from Amazon (.de or .fr) but why would you when electronics are covered with a minimum 2 year warranty within Switzerland

The post/inquiry from the off speaks of ignorance like many expats who have done little research on how to do things in Switzerland and instead start with looking outside much like they did from wherever they lived previously.

Adapt and frankly contribute to the economy of the locale for which you are meant to live & draw a salary, so yes it is groanworthy

Wow, how mature you are. You just repeatedly groan at me for asking for advice. Have a great life.

What about getting a member card at FNAC in Geneva? They offer good discounts.
