It depends on the case. Cases that are relatively simple should work out fine. In the US I have used cheap lawyers for advice a couple of times. Each time I won in court.

Please note that there is always a price for "free." You will probably have to wait and the meeting will be short.
Ah..........the US and lawyers !
For the most part I would disagree with that - quite the reverse I generally have less problem over good faith and ethics here than in the UK. Maybe not always on customer service though . Actually thinking about it I find the Swiss are remarkably reluctant to resort to law.
However there are exceptions - principally commercial sports facilities (gyms and the like) and mobile phone companies. But this is universal and not just Switzerland as far as I can tell.
The mere fact they pursue payment ranks them as a Bullshido gym.
To the OP:
Here's how the legal guys will look at your situation:
1. You agreed to the terms and conditions of the gym
2. You failed to act in accordance with the agreed T&Cs
3. You're saying it's the gyms fault....
Honestly, save the lawyers money, and go and talk to the gym. In person. That's your best path to resolution.
I remember reading somewhere that many Death Rows in the US are populated by people who had cheap lawyers.
That could be considered as a fatal decision then i guess
I think this combined with the other thread may be a bit of trouble... all for 900chf that you do seem to (legally) owe them.
I've told the OP to pay up as basically he doesn't have a leg to stand on. In light of the other thread I think it's best if we call closure on this one as well.
