Either way no speaker is immune to being knockd over, floorstanding or otherwise.
They won't be in the corner of the room, the TV & couch are not next to a wall. My kids can move around quite a lot when playing. At the moment we have big & heavy Sony home cinema speakers, they have never managed to knock them over. I know it is possible just not so easy as it would be with little ones on stands.
Some stands allow you to attach your speaker directly to the stand with a screw, usually if you buy the 2 together
Otherwise use bluetak, you will be amazed how good it is at holding a speaker to a stand.
You can also weight the stands down to provide extra stability.
Alternatively utilise the kids...get them to stand at the back of the room holding a speaker above their heads, for extra stability you could always nail them to the floor.
Edit will it be on carpet? if so you could always use floor spikes on the stands to give them extra grip.
I used to use coarse sand down the centre of the tubes of my speakers stand, this provided extra weight/stability and some sound deadening when the speakers were being driven hard, no vibration either.

I took myself off to Media Markt today to see & listen to some systems. At the moment it is a toss up between Sony or Samsung. The Sony one sounded really good (too me) & has everything I want. I liked the sound of the Samsung too & a guy I work with just bought one & said lots of good things about it. If you already have a hi-fi system with good speakers there is no need to buy additional speakers/amp for your blueray/TV...just plug an audio cable from your TV to your Hi Fi auxiliary jack. That will cost you about 20 CHFs for the cables and save space at the same time.
We did have a really good hi-fi sytem but it is now quite old & one of the speakers has stopped working along with other random problems. Given how much it costs to get stuff repaired I figured I may as well get a new one. If all had still been working well I would have done as you suggested.

I still like Onkyo, maybe the HT-S9300THX though it costs almost twice as much and doesn't appear to have WLAN.

Previous input was that wireless was inferior, is that still true? Im looking for a sound system in the same price range as op was and wireless sounds nice. My neighbors sonus speakers sound great, but he said it cant be connected to the TV, is that true? Any suggestions?
