Booking.com - how to contact?

Is there anyway of contacting Booking.com in a real and significant way- eg to write or talk to someone real, and who would reply rather than a computer generated reply?

their phone number in Switzerland is 044 200 38 50

Never tried it but found it on the internet.

They have different office in different regions and countries. Different policies too. The Japanese office was good at getting me a hotel refund. The US one was a PITA for a car rental issue.

I’ve contacted them and received a professional reply about a cancellation.

For 2 places we visited- the 'host' waited until after the cancellation date, and the money was taken- to say there would be no-one at the accommodation and we had to use a code to retrieve key to access accommodation. At one place, we were asked to send photos of our Identity Cards before we were given code- by someone who said they were on holiday with family in Kosovo.

I do not want to resort to stereo-types, and yet- we felt uncomfortable about that. How does one know that this is not being used to steal your identity?

I know Hôtels and B&Bs also take a copy of identity- but somehow it feels safer.

What do you think?

I contacted them via Twitter and they replied pretty quickly. I guess they'd be the same on Facebook. You can also do live chat on the website or call them (takes a bit of finding, at the top click on the question mark > select the booking you want to talk about > other topic > something else > more contact options)

Was this in Switzerland by any chance? Just reminds me of someone/somewhere

I can see it from both sides to be honest.

I would be a bit uncomfortable sending copies of my ID over the internet to somebody but on the other hand if I were giving access to my property to complete strangers I would like to have some proof that they are at least who they say they are.

I've used the live chat function to communicate with booking.com and was happy with the outcome.

No, in Austria.

Yes, and yet. It was not clear at the time of booking that this would be the case. He waited for the money to be taken to contact us and explain he was abroad and could not be there to welcome us- and asked for ID to be sent by phone.

In such cases, how can one be sure that theft of ID cannot be an issue? If I had known we would have to go through this process (we were asked time of arrival so we could be 'receptionned' at property) - I would have cancelled in time and chosen something else.

We had to ring the phone number given as the key was bent and wouldn't work - and found out then.

it's mandatory to send a copy of ID of the guests to the police in most places, or at least have a copy, even if you don't send it via whatsapp they will scan it and send it to the police, or take a pic and send it to themselves to print at home.

I have always found them to be quite responsive. If you have the app, tap on your profile and then Contact Customer Service and you can select the booking(s) you need help with.
