It is possible to stimulate lactation without pregnancy ( and without drugs) I have known mothers of adopted babies who have been able to stimulate the breasts to produce milk for their babies. In less artificially controlled cultures than ours, it is not abnormal for children to be breastfed for years.

e seems to be less horror at seeing children still sucking at bottles, or going to kindergarten plugged into a pacifier, than there is at lengthened periods of breastfeeding. Why does there have to be an societal cut off point?
