Thanks for the recommendation. The price is good, but that i7 is not from the last generation, it consumes more power and is not so efficient. And it looks like the whole cases are plastic. The after sales service from acer is not the best one either.
I will keep on looking for here... I will find a good present for christmas.
Laptops are 250% cheaper in the US? Just book a flight then and go and buy it. You'll still be in profit after taxes. Perhaps you could start an import business as there's a huge margin for profit there.
I bought a Lenevo from ebay last year which had a fan error. Replaced the fan and 1 year later it's failed again. Not the same model as above but seems to be a huge problem with the Thinkpad series.
In that price range, you're looking at something like this I guess.
The one you list is on special offer, excludes taxes and I find it hard to believe it compares to a 2000CHF model. Try finding the same model and spec in both countries to see how the prices really compare. The last time I looked, the difference was very small.
If it breaks, you may also find the warranty unusable unless you take it back to the US to be fixed.
I write in 4 languages and I can do it all with only one keyboard type, because you can for example combine: ̈ with a 'a' and get ä. Or ` and 'e' and get è.
There's always a virtual keyboard in windows for special situations..................
I once bought a video camera in the US because it was much cheaper than the UK. After 6 months it broke. I could not get it fixed under warranty in Europe. The repair costs made it much more expensive than if I'd simply bought it in the UK. Lesson learned.
I once bought a laptop in the US. It was slightly cheaper than in the UK. Over the lifetime of the machine, it needed a new power supply, a new CD drive and a new Wifi module. As it was a US model, all these parts had to be ordered from the US and shipped to the UK. I'm not sure of the costs but probably I doubt I saved anything in the end. Luckily I did not need to use the warranty because I think it would have been worthless. Lesson learned.
But if I had a chance to buy more clothes from the US instead of at Swiss prices, I would not hesitate ...
If a laptop is what you want, and you will be typing in English, then unless you plan to travel to the US, I think the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to buy it locally and change the keyboard settings to English. It might be confusing at first while typing, but then if you don't usually see the letters on the keyboard and you know how to place your fingers, it becomes a matter of habit.
AZERTY is the worst, for sure. But I've found that the Canadian International keyboard is the answer to my prayers -- all the accent keys I need, plus a normal QWERTY layout for the letters.
Wow so much confusion over a simple keyboard layout and display language. Mine's a Swiss-German keyboard as I've happily adapted - but the language of input is English. I still have the accented characters available if I need them.
What about a HP ENVY 15-j060ez, i7-4700MQ, 15.6" HD, GT 740M - 979 at Digitec?
