I think I won't find what I was feeding the dogs previously (Fromm) but there does seem to be similar types of food (fish based grain free) available.
zooplus seems to be a popular site...but people tend to order from the .de site?
Besides, who wants to lug a couple of 13kg bags around when you can have them delivered?
I've also recently switched to Escapure Wild for Puddle the PflegePoodle who has IBD. His list of food intolerances is longer than War and Peace; he can only eat single protein Venison grain free and gluten free foods. I buy Escapure direct from the manufacturer's website. The price in Germany is half of what it is in Switzerland, as is shipping. The German website will deliver to Switzerland.
Which is a long-winded way of saying, if your food of choice is a German manufacturer, contact the company to see if they can deliver to Switzerland. FYI, Fromm is available in Germany, contact them to see if you can order it online or perhaps if there is a retailer close to the border. See here:
http://frommfamily.com/retailers/germany/
But there are many good fish-based grain free foods available here. The usual big names: Orijen, Acana, Taste of the Wild, as well as smaller producers such as Wolfsblut, Purizon (Zooplus' own brand, I use the Fish as training treats for my HooverHounds, nice and smelly ), Barking Heads Fish n Delish, Simpsons, etc.
Once you decide on the food you wish to feed, do check both Swiss and German sites for best prices. The premium dog food market is growning and changing in Switzerland. As more niche brands are introduced I've seen some retailers' prices responding to some degree.
Will still try to contact Fromm for an online order option but have also found some other foods that I think will work...just have to try.
I'm actually near the Italian border (near Domodossola) and will likely go across tomorrow.
If I look at the zooplus.it website, their prices are also cheaper than the .ch site.
Anyone know a good pet store in Domodossola or nearby?
A few years on from my last post, I buy from a variety of places, depending on which brands/sizes I need.
I rarely buy from Zooplus.de anymore, thanks to the increased costs of delivery to Switzerland/delivery administration fees. Rather, I buy from Zooplus.ch. Yes, the prices are higher overall, but it pretty much comes out in the wash if I order over CHF 60 and so qualify for free delivery. ( www.zooplus.ch )
Some of the things I need are only available at Meiko ( www.meiko.ch ) and at Fressnapf ( www.fressnapf.ch ) I order online from Meiko, despite the high prices and delivery fees, as one product I regularly buy is often not stocked in their Hünenberg store. I generally shop at the closest Fressnapf rather than order online, largely because delivery takes longer than I would like.
Where it might make sense to shop really depends on what you are looking for. Retailers seem to specialize in certain brands.
Designer dogs and cats !
I feed my spaniel Orijen and get it from the KolleZoo https://www.koelle-zoo.de/erlebnisma...weil-am-rhein/ pet shop in the Rheincenter just over the Basel border in DE. No need for a car as Tram 8 goes there.
They have a great selection and you get tax back.
Online seems to have picked up, not sure of prices but basically you can get whatever you need diet wise.
A good idea would be move with 3 months supply to get some breathing space while you work things out.
Out here, some carriers have stopped delivering to the door, apparently they are no longer required to bring a package to the house, dropping packages at the street without signature now counts as delivery.
This is annoying me to the point of reconsidering online ordering, as I live a ways back from the street and can't lift those heavy big boxes. Not to mention that I have found the last few packages opened and rifled through. (Thankfully the thieves were not interested in dog food....)
This is not limited to dog food providers, all packages get dumped at the street, out in the open.
Neither Zooplus nor Meiko seem to have a delivery upgrade option to choose the carrier or ensure to the door delivery for an additional fee, which is a shame. The Post now offers a yearly service, something like CHF 40 per year, to deliver to the door. Do any of you use that, and does it really work?
Use a Credit Card to pay and make your refusal to pay via credit card company.
They'll soon start delivering to the door against signature.
Refusing payment can mean that you are blocked from future ordering.
I'd like to take a stand and stop ordering but... the mutts are hungry.
Oh and I buy dog food from zooplus.ch and http://www.gina-und-fritz.ch . My 12.5 year old pup now eats a mix of wet food (gina und fritz) and dry food for her teeth. I love gina and fritz, but it comes in individual glass jars. It's not cheap, but I have one dog. For a houseful of big dogs, it would be heavy and pricey. Much recycling. Still if you have a monthly order from them, shipping is free, and you are billed. Dpd is their delivery service...it is delivered to my door.
Si vous ne pouvez pas réceptionner ce colis aux heures indiquées, vous pouvez le faire livrer ailleurs ou choisir une autre date. Vous pouvez également nous autoriser à le déposer à l’adresse de livraison.
If i cannot recieve the parcel during the indicated hours, i could have it delivered elsewhere, or chose another date or authourise them to deliver with no signature.
Can't really ask for too much more
I get similar mail when a delivery is pending, my complaint is some carriers now just leave packages at the street without even attempt to bring them to the house. Dropping at the street apparently now constitutes delivery.
I live back from the street, in a Quartier. I cannot see a delivery van approaching from my window. Yes, I could camp outside on the street for the estimated timeframe, waiting for the delivery... but it still means that I need to lug the 30+ kilo package back to the house myself.
Just an example of how service has changed...
ETA:
If I could find a retailer selling the products I need who uses a carrier that still delivers to the door, I'd be happy to purchase from that business rather than from my current sources. Hence my question to Toddle. (Unfortunately the retailer linked by Toddle does not appear to carry the products I need.)
Meiko now offers free delivery for orders over CHF 69.
Hey, every little, and all that - especially when the Muttley Crew have decided their preferred nosh is the CHF 22/kg kibble.
