I've had a look around the threads but haven't found a recent answer to this specific question.
It seems peoples experiences may be based on whichever gemeinde they're in and whatever policy they were applying at the time .. as these experiences seem to differ since the new rules came into force.
It seems that some people have been asked to provide extra documentation and others not.
I've had C permit since before the new laws were introduced. I understood the new language requirement only applies to B->C upgrades.
I found this response which seemed to sum up what I thought:
"Permit C is not really renewed as it is by definition for an indefinite duration which can only be revoked in special circumstances. You only apply for a new physical permit with a new expiration date."
Therefore, there's no need to worry about getting a German proficiency certificate, employment contract etc. ....
It's just a straightforward renewal, correct?
Has anyone recent (last year or so) experience of this in Zurich city?
If so, what documents, if any, were asked for.
I renewed my C Permit after the new law came in and wasn't asked for any paperwork about language proficiency. My spoken German isn't great but this wasn't a problem. The people I dealt with were happy to switch to English when they sensed I was struggling.

I understand that a sub-set of EU countries do not have the requirement due to bi-lateral agreements ... Germany, Portugal, Spain etc ....
Are you from one of those countries?
I did some checking of threads before posting ... & found one guy who said he was required to show his work contract ... which I thought was strange ... as a C is supposedly 'unbefristet, bedingungslos'
I can't find it now, but at one point there was a graphic put out by Zurich that showed if a person is not integrated and can't support him/herself that a C permit could be downgraded to B.
However, if we look right on the ZH website, there's no obvious mention of that. The list of what you need for renewal does not include a work contract or language certificate.
