So, I wonder if I can go abroad (to my home country) while I'm in the process of getting my student permit changed to a work permit? I'm not from an EU country, and I heard that if I get a temporary permit from the migration office, I can travel abroad. I just wanted to check with you guys real quick before I actually head over to the migration office for verification.

I don't have a valid B permit between 3-5 months a year because it's the time it takes for renewal. So, I ask for the return travel visa.
If your employer already got the cantonal/federal approval to hire a non-EU worker, you already applied with the contract in the gemeinde/municipality where you will reside, and just waiting for an answer about your permit...just visit the Amt für Migration and ask for the rückreise visa.
