Can I choose surgeon?

Hello everyone

I do suffer from endometriosis and the endometriosis fach doctor who is following me suggested that I need surgery, however I don’t really trust him for several reason and I have selected another ones who does not work in a public hospital but has his own clinic and has long expertise in this field.

Am I allowed to choose him over the doctor who follows me (and works in a kantonal hospital)? Thanks

All depends on the type of insurance policy you have, you need to read it and if you don't understand, go see your insurance company and ask directly, they are the only people who can help you !

There is nothing stopping you seeing and using the doctor and paying privately, if the doctor agrees.

If there is a complication, this also will have to be paid for by you......

This.

But even if you don't have free choice, you are entitled to a second opinion.

Depends 100% on your insurance. If you have basic, probably not. So be very very careful. OH saw a surgeon that was covered by basic Insurance, out of Canton, for a difficult issue. He then needed an operation and agreed to him doing it at his clinic. A 20 minute operation, with 1 night at the Clinic, cost more than 12.000.

With traditional basic insurance (standard model), you are free to choose a doctor and you can decide for yourself within your own canton of residence and at your place of work which doctor or specialist you want to be treated by. The traditional model allows you to act independently and make your own decisions with the advantage of free choice of doctor.

Not really. You can choose your GP. But if you need an operation the Cantonal Hospital will typically alocate whatever doctor is on duty for your surgery.

Yes, but not in a hospital. Here you need semi-private or private insurance.

Yes I also think so. I will check with them
