Can I pay a SBB fine online without the bill?

Hello everyone

While staying in Switzerland I received a fine, as I was traveling on a train without a ticket. That happened right before I left the country. I am not going to come back anytime soon. I know there's an option to pay the fine online, but I haven't received the paper bill before leaving.

Is it possible to do something without the fine number?

Thank you for your time!

I doubt it as they need some sort of reference number to match the payment to. Are you having your mail forwarded to your new address?

they hand you the paper at the time they catch you.

Hmm no I don't think so (unless it's changed very recently).

A while ago my SO got caught at like 8:55 AM with a 9-Uhr-Pass (she forgot that she needed a ticket that early) and yes, they do hand you a paper on the spot stating your name and that you've been caught without a ticket but it doesn't have any payment reference or details.

The actual bill for the fine amount (a usual orange payment slip, or maybe it's a QR Rechnung these days) came by snail mail several weeks after that.

I'd advise OP to call their phone support, maybe they can look you up in their system and tell you the payment details.

you could be right as i might not have remembered correctly. maybe i paid on the spot. or took the paper to an SBB counter to pay it. anyway, the paper should have a reference and a number to call on it.

Thank you its actually a good idea to call them!
