It's 4.5 p but the price also includes a private garage (we could not rent without taking it). And we need room for baby and in-laws. Still, prices for 4.5p around here are usually even higher.
We are not allowed by the building rules to install a washing machine in the apartment. Maybe in Aargau you pay next to nothing for renting so consider yourself lucky you haven't landed in the south-west.
Well things are different if you are an owner, of course, I was talking about tenants- who regularly have a contract that clearly says a washing machine cannot be installed. Even if it is not, according to Swiss tenants' regulations, you HAVE TO ask permission specifically to the rentor- and they are entitled to refuse. End of. Even if you are an owner, with a PPE (propriété par étage- no idea in German) association- the ownership contract will normally stipulate whether animals are allowed, or washing machines, etc. We have a flat we own in the UK, and we are clearly NOT allowed to keep an animal there- even though we are owners.
Not true. Nothing to do with scrimping. Our old apt was 2900 sfr with no,washer/dryer. Luxury otherwise, views, new kitchen, etc. we realized pretty quick, having no washer/dryer was a HUGE mistake and not worth the headaches.
I have never rented in Aargau. I was previously in Ticino where rents are possibly a bit lower. If I were renting the apartment I am in now, I would pay around Fr1'750.-- per month, which is more than double what I actually pay for mortgage and running costs combined! Buying is the way to go, it saves a huge amount of money! Plus you can definitely then put in a washing machine and whatever else you want I suppose...
I understand your point, but I doubt that an animal or washing machine is going to cause an owner any real bother, I mean how on earth are they supposed to stop you from having them?
They don't even manage to stop tenants from keeping animals and/or installing things. Animals are forbidden in our building (like in many I assume), but one woman has 2 dogs, another woman has 1 dog (and both women are renting, they are definitely not owners), and we have a cat.
I would definitely like to buy but for that you need a long term work contract... I am aware we are being ripped off but we have no choice - my wife works at EPFL so we needed to rent in the vicinity.
My friends have lovely view on the brick wall and still have to pay 1900CHF and scrap the lint :/
There are even 'elderly' blocks of owner occupied flats which were built before it became 'normal' to have machines for each unit. These appartments are subject to washing schedules too. Even when most of the occupants have a washing machine of their own, it is very useful to have a Stewi to hang washing outside in summer and in winter use the large drying room with a fan and dehumidifier rather than using a tumble-drier in ones own flat. How does one dry large articles? In the tumble-drier when it is 30° outside?
I assume you need documented income to buy, I don't know if you actual have to be in paid work. I bought a few years ago now, my employment contract ended literally 25 days after I signed the purchase agreement and started my mortgage and I haven't worked since.
I think even people on benefits can buy as they have a secure regular income.
I don't have a tumble dryer in my flat, but I know the woman with one dog (illegally) also has a tumble dryer, (so probably the dryer is also illegal!). I dry on the balcony when it's fine, near the radiator in winter and in the drying room (dehumidifier) when it's my turn to get in there.
it is very simple- they can just tell you it is not allowed- all it needs is a complaint from an owner who has bought one of those flats because they don't like or are allergic to, dogs or cats- BECAUSE they are not allowed. Exactly what happened to our daughter who went to live in OUR flat in the UK. The Head of the Owners association came and knocked on the door- and showed her the ownership contract which clearly says dogs are NOT allowed- and we had no choice but to adopt the little dog and bring him back to Switzerland with us. My brother owns a beautiful flat above Vevey in a PPE- and they are not allowed a dog either- which they of course knew when they signed for the ownership contract- so being an owner does not mean you can do what you want. Unless you have a single family home, hopefully with enough land to keep away from neighbours.
They would have otherwise put in an official complaint and forced us to sell the flat, as we were in clear breach of the contract we had signed on purchase. Why do you think that you are exempt from clear rules on contracts you have signed or approved?
Alright, you have a fair point, but I am not in breach of any rule as far as the machine and the use thereof is concerned, as washing machines are not prohibited by our house rules. I double checked.
I guess though, unhappily, I am in breach of the rules as to keeping a cat is concerned. But keeping dogs in flats, which also make a big row yapping or gruff barking and a horrid smell (one dog is huge) in my view is far worse than one quiet, senior cat, and since those women are renting the flats they are in, they are definitely far more at risk of being asked to leave than myself as an owner.
Maybe generally not when on unemployment, but on other benefits I think it is actually possible. It will depend on the bank lending the money in the end.
Drying stuff 'near the radiator' is fine unless your accomodation is rented and you have mould problems. Then you'll have a hard time proving that you didn't make the situation worse yourself. And I've never seen flats without a washing schedule which have a decent sized drying room. Which was my point. Me and you, we have the best of both worlds.
Even if not clealy disallowed- if you are a tenant (and in your case you say you are not- but most here are) you have to ask for written permission from the owner/agency in Switzerland.
