Cant seem to buy Cod Liver Oil...

No, linseed has ALA, a fat that is made into another fat already in CLO, maybe EPA or DHA I cannot remember which. So you are getting effectively more of the essential Omega 3s, as I vaguely recall the conversion of ALA is only like 10%.

But the ALA and Cod liver oil go well together, you are covering all bases as it where if you were to take both. You can alternate them too.

Did you read that BBC article that says TLA is good for your...?

...pretentiousness.

What is TLA? Don't get the post...

*SIGH*

TLA information

Well sorry but no one here seems too interested in the scientific details so far, but if they are just look up linseed oil and ALA. These medical substances are abbreviated for a reason, and if they are not in my memory with their full name it is because I see no use to remember anything else than the acronym; just look it up in google!

It would be way more pretentious if I have the full name of these medical substances at the tips of my fingers while not being a medical scientist! So ALA it is.

Ok, to add to my statement, I checked the levels of Dioxin and PCB pollution for farmed and wild fish in the same report (ng/kg): Farmed salmon 2.3 +/- 0.3 Farmed eels 2.0 +/- 0.2 Farmed trout 1.0+/- 0.1 Sea caught haddock 0.05 +/- <0.01 Sea caught cod 0.07 +/- <0.01 Sea caught mackerel 1.4 +/- 0.2 Sea caught herring 1.7 +/- 0.2 Now these are ng/kg fresh weight, so a rough calculation based on eating 150gr of fish versus 4 gr of fish oil (here cod liver oil), you ingest 0.35 ng for salmon, 0.21 for mackerel and 0.006 for a spoon of cod liver oil. Per portion, this gives you specific EFA Omega 3's of 3900 mg for wild mackerel, 2100mg for wild salmon, and ~310mg EFA for cod liver oil. If you wanted to get just as much EFA from cod liver oil as from a portion of wild mackerel, you would ingest 0.074 ng of Dioxins + PCBS for 50gr of oil versus 0.21 ng for 150gr of mackerel.

Conclusion: the cod liver oil I mentioned, has been refined relative to a unit of fish with a lot of beneficial Omega 3. However, the more polluted oils are up to a factor of three worse than the one used in my calculation, which means they are about as polluted as a wild mackerel. That is pretty bad, since these are one of the most polluted fish species around. However, as you can see, if you want to eat fish only, most farmed species are much worse again.

renewing the activity on this thread 2007 was the last post.

I too am searching for liquid cod liver oil. I went to a Drogerie in Chur and found caps but those never worked for me as well as the liquid.

It really helps my joints, after a year here, I'm starting to feel the affects of not taking it regularly.

My favorite brand in Seattle was Carlson's Norwegian CLO unflavored.

Having it shipped here is going to cost too much... the Icelandic CLO will also cost 30 Euros to ship a liter of it here.

If anyone knows of a good supply, that delivers that would be great.

I did check the one website someone posted here Drogerie Müri AG

but didn't see where I could order it.

Why don't you just ask the druggist or chemist to order you some - simple.

I think most Swiss who were forced to have a spoonful of cod liver oil at school throughout their childhood would rather take it in capsule form like me.

I Googled 'huile de foie de morue' and found lots of sites that sell the liquid form in France.

Thanks, for the French connection... I did ask to order the liquid and she looked on the computer and then said nope, only the caps.

Secret to drinking any oil is to chase it with a shot of prune juice, the liquid form is required for a witches concoction for joint/ arthritis potion

Try iherb.com:

http://www.iherb.com/search?kw=Carls...675&y=-145#p=1

Shipping cost to CH: $6

+1 to iHerb. But I pay 4usd.

My OH prefers liquid http://www.iherb.com/Nature-s-Answer...oz-480-ml/7908

I use gels http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals...Softgels/14039

Both very high in EPA and DHA, they key ingredients. PM me for a 10usd off your first order code.

well, the shipping costs seem to vary a little. So yes, $4-6 to Switzerland. You can't beat that!

@ToothCentral: Try http://www.ebay.ch/itm/Carlson-Labs-...#ht_500wt_1139 . Maybe they have the unflavoured one as well if you search the site.

Also look at http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...;s%20Norwegian .

I know how it sucks when you can't easily get what works for you but hang on in there!

Thanks, I used iHerb a bit when I lived in Seattle.

I put it in my cart and went to check out, Switzerland was not on the list, Austria, Germany, France, Italy were tho.

For grins I put in Liechtenstein, and it was 4 dollars DHL, I have a friend who works in Liechtenstein, maybe I can ship it to his work.

Thanks, they do have the unflavored, looks like 68 chf to get it to my doorstep, plus the mafia post tax 74 chf for a 16 oz... :-) I'll keep it in mind as a last resort, hoping for less expensive options.

Just try a few more chemist's and ask them if they can order it for you if they haven't got it. I am abso sure you can buy the liquid form here- will ask my chemist's when I go on Tuesday.

Thanks

If one has joint pains, a witches potion is a tablespoon of CLO with 2 table spoons whole milk added together before going to bed, wake up in the morning stir it a bit, and down it first thing on an empty stomach, I chase with a shot of prune juice and have no after flavor or fish burps during the day. I've tried the Flavored versions, and get fish fruit burps... and the caps just don't work for me, too much processing maybe.

I do take a 2000 IU vit D cap and it works well... for a good mood, anti depression stuff.

I believe you, I should try a couple other shops... I'm sad that my favorite Druggie is closing in Chur Alt Stadt, he had way more off the wall stuff.

There is one by Martins platz I will try Monday too.

I have ordered a number of times in the last 6 months, and as recently as two weeks ago. DHL 4usd yes, over 40usd and under 4kg. Takes a bit longer than the premium postage, but if you just need "reupping" and are organized that is no problem. Never had a customs issue either.
