Car dealer without physical premises

Perhaps I have been here too long but there is no way I would buy a new car from some guy on the street standing next to a rented parking space.

Why not buy that Mazda 2 Hybrid from HIAO

OP! Today could be your day.

And the winter tires are thrown in on the deal

But personally, I’d get a hybrid.

Well, contact European headquarters of Toyota in Austria, and let's see if Toyota Europe does not force the local ass***** to do their job as they are supposed to, based on signed contractual agreements they have.

One could say, well I don't want to deal with that and it's fine, then go ahead and pay 7-8k more for the same exact car just because it's a "Swiss" version. Funnily, many have the impression that "Swiss" versions are better quality. So naive! All European Toyotas are produced in the same factory, the only thing that could differ is default equipment etc. Just my 2 cents, each one to his own decision.[/QUOTE]

To each their own indeed. I have only bought a car once in my life so am no expert. I was just pointing out that being legally entitled to a service and then actually getting that service can be a real pain in the butt. That's all. I hope all goes well for you!

The fact of the matter is, most dealers make very little on the actual car sale these days. When I got my last Subaru, the guy told me he was only getting a few hundred out of the deal. The dealer's income these days is mostly from doing routine service. So in the end they probably don't mind having to service a car obtained somewhere else.

This link is an example of these "much maligned" imports (it says it on the full equipment list). Also, I want a hybrid. I'm sure in your search there were some hybrid options starting at 21.3K just a few entries down

Exactly right. I've been avoiding getting a car for decades, and now that I'm in a situation where one would really help, I'm caught up in this stupid pricing situation. It's especially bad with small cars, since I think during recent shortages car makers simply prioritised large cars, creating shortages and driving up the prices of small ones.

Provided a link for hybrids in that post!

Bought an imported golf seven years ago from a guy who had rented a garage premises. Did all the checks prior to buying, the car was in the vw system. At that time we also got a good spec new model for the price of a three -year old swiss one. Never had to enforce the guarantee, but service at official VW garages has never been a problem.

FYI, concerning the warranty I did two checks

1) I contacted Toyota directly to ask if EU warranty would be honoured in Switzerland. They answered that yes, it would be, as long as the vehicle is registered in their internal system in Switzerland. If it has not been registered, this needs to be done and there is a charge.

2) I contacted an official garage near me (listed on Toyota's site) which only does repairs and doesn't sell cars, to get a hopefully unbiased opinion. The reply was the same: yes they will service imported cars, but if it hasn't been registered here yet, that has to be done first at a cost of 90CHF.

So two separate sources on either side of the fence are saying the same thing. For Toyota at least, I don't think it is much of a problem getting an imported car as far as warranty is concerned (there could be other concerns, e.g. resale value later, etc). Disclaimer: this is not "advice", I haven't put it to the test, just sharing what I've been told!
