Cashier's Check?

Thanks for the tip Sbrinz. Does this "Cash International" thing have the required code line at the bottom with the routing, account and transit numbers? I tried to get the embassy staff person to indicate what they actually allowed or give some indication where I could get that payment instrument here in Switzerland, and they would not budge at all. So I don't know if they used to be more flexible or simply aren't saying so over the phone.

Search for "travelers checks". For instance, you could use Visa Travelers Cheques issued by either BofA of Citicorp.

Or ask your bank

Was just at the Embassy last month to get an emergency pass for my daughter. No problem with paying. They accept Visa and Mastercard and even Swiss Franks.

Yes, but as DNando is in the boonies of the Malcantone, I would guess that they are doing it by mail.

Most of the Embassy staff you have contact with are local employees, and so most have probably never seen what we are talking about. I haven't either, but the description fits the requirements.

The Post Office description is that of a 20th century cheque, it probably has some of the E13B code along the bottom, but as it is intended for international manual clearing purposes you can't bank on it.
